Broncos Handle Cold shooting Eagles
BOISE, Idaho – The Northwest University men got off to a slow start and were never able to recover as Boise State registered an 85-46 win over the Eagles. NU went 1 for 11 to start the game as the Broncos built a 24-9 lead. An exhibition contest for Northwest U, their record remains at 5-0 for the season while Boise State is 1-0.
BSU’s Chandler Hutchinson had 6 of his 23 points and two assists in the first six minutes of the game to help the Broncos get off to their quick start. NU’s Michael Dupree got the Eagles back in the game with two straight jumpers with 8 minutes left in the half to make it a 27-13 game, but the Eagles cold shooting would continue as BSU would take a 43-20 halftime lead.
NU’s shooting woes would continue to start the second half as they would go 1 for 6 in the first five minutes and turn the ball over three times. With 14:46 to go, two free throws by James Reid would stretch the Broncos lead to 60-24.
Northwest U’s Ben Tucakovic, playing in his home town, led the Eagles with 12 points. Michael Dupree scored 10 points while the Broncos defense held Dak Shagren to 5 points for the game. NU shot 30 per cent for the game and struggled from the 3-point line making 18 per cent of their shots (3-17).
Boise State was led by Chandler Hutchinson’s 23 points and 11 rebounds on 9 for 10 shooting while teammate, Alex Hobbs scored 11 points off the bench. Justinian Jessup had 10 points and 7 rebounds as BSU converted 52 per cent of their shots (27-52). BSU out rebounded NU 50-27.
Northwest U will return to Kirkland and will host the Evergreen State College on Tuesday, Nov. 15 in a non-conference contest in the NU Pavilion at 7 p.m.
