LA GRANDE, Ore. – The EOU women’s basketball team started off conference play with three players scoring in double figures, as the Mountaineers defeated College of Idaho, 72-64.
Senior guard Darian Gasseling led the Mountaineers (7-2, 1-0 CCC) with 22 points and snagged six boards, while junior guard Maya Ah You netted 11 points with six rebounds and junior guard Reece Bauer stuffed the stat sheet with 15 points, five rebounds and dished out five assists.
Gasseling drilled a shot from beyond the arc to put EOU up 13-2 at the 6:14 mark in the first period, as junior guards Payton Parrish and Ah You combined to score the next nine points, ending the first period leading 24-11.
Bauer collected 10 of her 15 points in the second period shooting 2-of-2 from downtown, but the Yotes (0-7, 0-1 CCC) would outscore the Mounties 19-18, cutting the deficit to 12 (42-30) heading into halftime.
In the third period EOU jumped out an 8-0 run, pushing the margin to 20 points (50-30), with senior guard Donniesha Webber going 1-of-2 from beyond the arc. College of Idaho attempted one last rally, shooting 70 percent from the floor in the fourth period(7-of-10) but Gasseling answered, chipping in eight points to stave off the comeback.
Petra Lumpert recorded a double-double for COI adding 15 points and 10 rebounds.
