ASHLAND – In appropriate fashion, Southern Oregon University seniors Ashley Claussen and Carly Meister took it upon themselves to take out the team that has stood in their way atop the Cascade Conference standings for the majority of their collegiate careers.

And now, after Saturday night's 83-63 win over three-time defending champion Eastern Oregon, the Raiders are one win away from their first conference title in eight seasons. College of Idaho visits at 1 p.m. Sunday, and sixth-ranked SOU (22-5 overall, 16-1 CCC) could be applying scissors to nets a couple hours later.

In addition to three seasons of envy, the Mountaineers (17-9, 14-4) had also been responsible for SOU's only loss of the season – 74-64 on Jan. 16 in La Grande – and defeated the Raiders in 10 of the last 12 meetings.

In an effort to change that, Meister dominated inside with 22 points on 10-of-11 shooting, 10 rebounds and three steals. Claussen went 1-for-6 in the first half before going 5-for-6 in the third quarter in a game-changing spurt, finishing with 21 points, five assists and two steals.

With the Raiders leading 47-41, Claussen knocked down a pull-up 3-pointer off the dribble. After a Mountaineer bucket, Claussen collected a pass in the corner and knocked down another triple, and her step-back jumper late made it 63-48 before EOU scored the last five points of the third quarter.

Ashley Knight's 3-pointer cut SOU's lead to 62-56 on the first possession of the fourth quarter, but SOU's Autumn Durand answered on the other end with a 3. Claussen then stole the ball from Jordan Klebaum, came down the floor in transition and converted a basket-and-one to make it 68-56 with 8:24 left.

Tiani Bradford added 15 points, making a career-high three 3-pointers, and Durand finished with 10 points, six rebounds and four assists. Toria Bradford's three-point play made it 73-59 with just over five minutes left, all but sealing the deal.

SOU shot 51 percent from the field and 8-of-21 from downtown. EOU shot 42 percent and was 5-for-17 from 3-point range after making 14 triples in the first matchup to set an SOU opponent record.

Kelsey Hill led the Mountaineers off the bench with 15 points and seven rebounds.
