Owls Sweep Yotes
KLAMATH FALLS, Ore.- Oregon Tech Pitcher Kelly Scott picked up a win and a save in the circle leading the Owls to a Cascade Conference sweep of College of Idaho 4-3, and 14-8 Friday afternoon at the OIT Softball Complex.
Oregon Tech improved to 11-3 in conference play and 18-13 on the season with College of Idaho falling to 5-7 in CCC play and 13-12 overall with today’s results. Oregon Tech will host Eastern Oregon University Saturday in a doubleheader slated for 11:00 am. C of I will play at Southern Oregon in Ashland, Oregon also at 11:00 am Saturday. EOU swept a doubleheader from SOU Friday 4-1, and 8-3.
Game 1
Oregon Tech took the early lead as Tara Moates hit a 2-out double to left center and scored the game’s first run on an Ali Graham single in the bottom of the 1
st.
Oregon Tech Starting Pitcher Ann-Marie Guischer was pulled after two innings of work with a medical issue. Oregon Tech Head Coach Greg Stewart handed the ball to Sophomore Pitcher Kelly Scott in the top of the 3
rd inning. Scott’s first pitch to Destiny Turner was slammed over the scoreboard in right field as Turner extended her hit streak to 15 games with her 5
th homer of the season, a blast that tied the game at 1-1.
Moates gave the Hooter the lead back 3-1 in the bottom of the third as she drilled a 2-run homer to left field. It was her team leading 9
th long ball of the season.
The Yotes tied the game in the top of the 6
th as Starting Pitcher Cortni Pena helped out her own cause with her second home run of the year, a 2-run blast to deep center field to tie the game at 3-3.
Tech’s Ali Graham hit a 1-out double in the bottom of the 6
th and pinch runner Sahalie Doe scored the game winner on a Cassidy Hoglund 2-out single as the Owls won game one 4-3.
Kelly Scott picked up the win to improve to 3-2 on the year. Pena pitched well for the Yotes but picked up the loss to fall to 5-7.
Graham had 3-hits and Moates 2-hits to lead the Hooter offensively.
Alex Kordopatis had 2-hits for the Yotes.
Game 2
Oregon Tech outlasted College of Idaho 14-8 in the night cap as the Owls out-hit C of I 15-13 with each team committing 2 errors.
Turner extended her hitting streak to 16 games as she blasted the first pitch she saw over the right field fence for her 2
nd homer of the day. Ashley Pesek tripled in Katie Rowe who had singled as the Yotes took an early 2-0 lead in the first.
Tech answered with 4-runs in the second inning on 4-hits, a walk and an error.
OIT made it a 6-2 game with 2-runs in the 3
rd on 3-hits.
The Hooter then added 5-runs in the 4
th highlighted by Sadie Birch 3-run homer to take an 11-2 lead heading to the 5
th and a possible mercy rule shorted win.
College of Idaho had other thoughts, as the Yotes exploded for 6-runs on 6-hits added by a pair of walks and an OIT error to make it an 11-8 game.
Graham then put the game away in the bottom of the 5
th with a 3-run homer to center to give the Owls the 14-8 lead.
Scott pitched the final two and two thirds to pick up her first save of the year as she held the Yotes without a run in the 6
th an 7
th.
Graham picked up the win to improve to 6-6 on the year.
Katie Virtue and Cassidy Hoglund had 3-hits each to lead the Owls with McKenzie Shrum, Graham, and Tre Sullivan each adding 2-hits in the win.
Turner, Kordopatis, and Rowe had 2-hits each to lead the Yotes.
