KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Adam Kandra tossed a complete-game shutout in the opener and Oregon Tech notched five extra base hits in the nightcap, as the Owls swept the NAIA West series over Simpson University, 8-0 and 12-2, Sunday at Kiger Stadium.

Oregon Tech improves to 6-18 in the NAIA West standings, while SU falls to 3-20 in the league standings.

Game 1 – (OIT 8 vs SU 0)

Danny Topps led off with a single and came around to score on a ground out in Tech’s first at-bat.  That would be all the run support starter Adam Kandra would need, as the sophomore right-hander allowed just five hits and struck out 12 in his complete-game effort.  Kandra moved to 3-3 on the season.

Oregon Tech tallied five runs in the second to move up 6-0.  Louis Wolf, Loren Cutolo, Kai Fong and Ryan Grant recorded RBI singles in the frame.  Matthew Moorehead hit a solo shot in the seventh, his team-leading 8th of the season, to make it 7-0.  Evan Johnson doubled in the Owls’ last run in the eighth for the final 8-0 score. Topps finished 3-for-5 and Fong 2-for-4 in the win.

Game 2 – (OIT 12 vs SU 2)

Tyler Bennett picked up his fifth win of the season going 6.0 innings with five strike outs.  Bennett allowed just four hits and one earned run.

Fong led the Owls with three hits, including a triple, with Grant, Colton Hinrickson and McKinnon Bennett picking up two hits each.  Topps, Grant, Hinrickson and M. Bennett recorded doubles with Fong, Hinrickson and Cutolo driving in two runs each.

Tech’s big inning came in the fifth with eight runs to make it a 12-1.  SU plated a single run in the seventh with the Owls claiming a 12-2 win via the 10-run rule.

Oregon Tech will look to climb the NAIA West standings when they host College of Idaho on April 16 and 17 in a four-game series at Kiger Stadium.
