BUTTE, Mont. – Facing its fourth top-20 opponent in the last two weeks posed no threat to the eighth-ranked EOU volleyball team, as the Mountaineers registered 44 kills and 13 blocks to defeat No. 20 Concordia (Neb.), 3-0 (25-19, 25-14, 25-22).

EOU improved to 6-1 on the year, collecting its fifth-straight sweep in the process, while the Bulldogs of Concordia dropped to 1-4.

Senior hitter Makayla Lindburg was good on both sides of the net, hitting .429 for 10 kills and rising for seven block assists. From the outside, junior Amanda Miller buried seven kills, while junior hitter Madisen Garlie added six kills and seven blocks (one solo).

Logging an all-around effort for EOU, setter Rachelle Chamberlain added six kills, 16 assists, and nine digs, while sophomore libero Holli Mullins collected 14 digs and one service ace.

As a team, the Mountaineers outhit the Bulldogs, .343-.163, marking the fourth time this season they’ve hit .340 or better.

Set one was close early on, with both squads trying to find a rhythm in the early-bird affair. Chamberlain snuck over a kill to put EOU up, 13-12, and the Mountaineers proceeded to score 10 of the next 15 points to attain a 23-17 advantage. Freshman outside hitter Hailee Ackerman mustered a kill to reach set point (24-18), and Concordia reaped a side-out before Garlie hammered down a kill to give EOU a 1-0 lead.

EOU jumped to a 15-6 lead in the second stanza, as the Mountaineers held the Bulldogs to a negative .054 clip. Chamberlain delivered an ace to put the Blue and Gold up by double digits (23-13), and then Lindburg and senior outside hitter Sierra Linke notched kills to seal the set.

The third frame featured 12 ties and seven lead changes before the Blue and Gold used a mini 8-4 run to reach set point (24-21). Concordia doubled up (6-3) EOU early, but Lindburg, Miller and junior hitter Isabelle Statkus tallied kills to get the Mountaineers back in it. Tied at 18, EOU buried three-straight kills and kept the advantage until Garlie put one away to close the contest.
