SOU Sports Information
ASHLAND – Michal Bilger and Mattie Jo Johnson put down 10 kills apiece, and the Northwest (Wash.) volleyball team was never seriously challenged Saturday at Mountain Avenue Gym, ending a 25-match series losing streak against Southern Oregon.
The Eagles (7-2 overall, 4-0 Cascade Conference) -- whose lone win in the series had been a five-setter during the 2004 season in Kirkland -- won 25-18, 25-17, 25-16 and remained one of two teams (sixth-ranked Eastern Oregon being the other) with a perfect CCC record.
Morgan Pilon (35 assists) kept the Eagles' attack sharp, leading them to a .229 team attacking average, while Leia Roy (13 digs) and Amanda Waterman (12 digs) controlled the back row.
For the match, Northwest's sideout percentage was 69 and SOU's was 47.
SOU (5-6, 2-2) was led by
Emma Gasman's nine kills on 16 swings and
Courtney Macklin's seven kills on 19, but only two others had multiple kills and they hit .093 as a team.
Lauren McGowne, who had a career-high 62 assists Friday against Evergreen, registered 23 against the Eagles.
Northwest jumped out to leads of 16-8 in the first set, 16-7 in the second and 12-7 in the third.
The Raiders hadn't been swept at home since Sept. 20, 2013 against Concordia (Ore.).
