Lady Wolves Unable to Complete Late Comeback, Fall to Geoducks

College Place, Wash- The Evergreen State College Geoducks (4-14,3-8) snapped their 8 game losing streak on Sunday afternoon by defeating Walla Walla (2-14,0-10) in what was a highly competitive contest.
By the Numbers
- The Wolves shot very efficiently in the first quarter, going 47% from the field including two triples
- Sierra Briggs and Alyssa Blankenship both shined for the Wolves as Blankenship tallied 16 points and 7 rebounds, and Briggs led the Wolves in both scoring and rebounding with 16 and 8
- The Geoducks attack was led by Autumn Moorcroft (20 points, 8 rebounds) and Gabi Fenumiai (16 points,17 rebounds)
- Evergreen built a big lead due to lights out shooting in the third quarter as they went 12-18 (66.7%)
- Walla Walla's surging comeback in the fourth quarter was fueled by efficient three point shooting (50%) and Sierra Briggs, who racked up 8 points in the final period
How it Happened
The Wolves started the game red hot from the field, shooting 75% as they built an early 7-2 lead. Both teams proceeded to play each other even for the remainder of the first quarter with Walla Walla leading by a score of 19-16 heading into the second. After back and forth scoring throughout the first five minutes of the second, the Geoducks took their first lead of the contest when Gabi Fenumiai bullied her way into the paint for the easy bucket, making the score 24-22. The two teams headed to the halftime break with Evergreen leading by a score of 30-22.
Midway through the the third quarter the Geoducks opened up a ten point lead when Autumn Moorcroft got into the paint for an easy layup, making the score 36-26. Evergreen cruised into the fourth quarter holding on to a 22 point lead at 56-34.
Sierra Briggs and Emily Downs supplied the Wolves with a glimmer of hope early in the fourth quarter as they connected for an easy layup to pull within 15 at 43-58. Sierra Briggs continued to dominate the fourth quarter, cutting the Geoducks' lead to 9 at 53-62 when she buried a triple with one minute remaining. Evergreen was able to stop Walla Walla's comeback attempt, winning the game by a final score of 65-54.
