EUGENE, Ore. – The Northwest Christian University volleyball team beat the visiting OIT Owls in straight sets on Saturday 25-17, 25-19, 25-11 in a CCC matchup. With the win the Beacons jumped Southern Oregon in the conference standings, rising to take the fifth spot.
 
Coming off a stellar performance against SOU, Northwest Christian (12-4, 7-4 CCC) outplayed Oregon Tech in every facet of the match, hitting .310 to the Owls .089 and ending with a 10-2 block advantage. Hitters Keri Schwarz and Natalie Downes each finished with 10 kills and hitting percentages over .400. The duo also combined for six blocks in the sweep.
 
Set one was closely contested until NCU rattled off nine consecutive points midway, pulling away to conclude the set. OIT never regained their composure, as Northwest Christian coasted to their third consecutive victory.
 
Junior transfer Megan Van Marter had herself a match, excelling both offensively and defensively. Van Marter had nine kills on .471 hitting, while also contributing seven blocks, three digs, and the match-ending service ace. Kasey Campbell had eight kills for the Beacons, as she continues to be one of NCU’s top scoring threats. Maci Beierle ran a well-balanced offense collecting 34 assists as well as eight digs and three kills. The NCU backrow had another strong performance with Haley Damian notching a match-high 14 digs. Kayla Olson and Claire Salness each notched double-digit digs for the Beacons as well.
 
OIT (5-8, 3-6) was led by Cheyanne Laber, landing 10 kills on .400 hitting. Chase Bohman was next in line, earning nine kills of her own. The Owls had two players collect 13 assists in Jaime Toedtemeier and Waverly Green.
 
The Beacons are back in action on Friday October 6th, hosting CCC foe Warner Pacific at 7 p.m. in the Morse Event Center.
