Katie Rozumny led NU with 13 points
William Jessup Downs Eagles
ROCKLIN, Calif. – Some William Jessup defense and cold shooting on the part of the NU Eagles led to a 61-48 defeat at the hands of the Warriors in Rocklin, Calif., tonight.
The Eagles managed just 23 per cent shooting for the game hitting just 18 of 78 attempts. William Jessup wasn’t exceptionally hot hitting 32 per cent of their shots (20-62).
Trailing Jessup by three, 18-15 at the end of the first quarter, the Warriors would pull away to increase their lead to 17 points by the end of the half at 43-26.
With 2:26 left in the third period, William Jessup had stretched their lead to 20, 50-30 after a driving lay-up by Jessica Armstrong. From that point on, the eagles would begin to chip away at the Warrior lead cutting it to eight, 52-44, with 8:52 remaining in the fourth quarter after a Katie Rozumny 3-pointer and a Kalee Fowler lay-up. With 6:15 to go in the game Miranda Langenhorst would bury a jumper cutting the WJU lead to six, 54-48.
That would be the closest NU would be able to get as a 7-0 Warrior run would end the game and giving WJU the final 61-48 score.
Katie Rozumny led Northwest U (1-1) with 13 points and 3 assists. Hannah Carlson scored 10 points and pulled down 7 rebounds while Miranda Langenhorst was big on the glass with 15 rebounds. NU was ide cold from the 3-point line converting just 3 of 24 shots for 12.5 per cent.
William Jessup (1—0) was led by Ashlyn Jones’ 14 points and 15 rebounds. Lily Hagerty and Anisah Smith both scored 13 points for the Warriors who out rebounded the Eagles 58-49.
From Coach Ken Crawford of the Eagles, “Tough ball game tonight for the Lady Eagles against a very strong and physical William Jessup squad. Down by 22, we were able to mount a comeback and get to within six, but no closer than that. I was very happy with our intensity and with our desire to get better. Glad it’s only October as we see good things ahead.”
Next Up: NU will play an exhibition game with Central Washington University in Ellensburg on Oct. 31.
