Lady Yotes Stun No. 22 Oregon Tech in Overtime, 75-72
CALDWELL, Idaho – Rallying from six points down in the fourth quarter, the College of Idaho forced overtime and scored the final five points of the extra session, stunning No. 22 ranked Oregon Tech, 75-72, inside the J.A. Albertson Activities Center.
The Lady Yotes (11-12, 11-6 CCC) extended their win streak to five in a row with the victory, ending OIT's nine-game string of wins.
The Owls (21-6, 14-3) jumped out to a 19-6 first quarter lead, but saw the margin dwindle to 58-52 with six minutes remaining. A
Kiara Skinner triple started a 7-0 C of I run, with a
Madison Pilster lay-up with just 4:18 left gave the Yotes their first lead of the night. After seven lead changes, Tech's Carly McIsaac canned a runner with 45 seconds left to give the visitors a 68-66 lead, only for Pilster to answer at the other end to force the extra period.
In overtime, consecutive Bailey Nelson baskets gave OIT their final lead at 72-70.
Jaycin Tini evened the score with an inside deuce and
Petra Lumpert gave C of I the lead for good with two free throws with 51 seconds remaining. After a defensive stop,
Maddie Skaggs split a pair of free throws for the Yotes, with Pilster blocking Vandenbrink's game-tying 3-point try at the buzzer to set off a celebration.
Skinner led the Yotes with 22 points and eight rebounds, with Skaggs hitting 4-of-5 3-pointers, part of a 15-point, 12-rebound night.
Alyssa Case had 13 points and Pilster scored all 10 of her points after halftime. C of I held a commanding 47-37 edge on the glass and made nine 3-pointers in the victory.
Morgan Roberts-and Nelson each scored 19 points for OIT, with McIsaac adding 14. Tech made 45-percent of their field goal attempts, but converted just 4-of-16 shots from outside the arc.
The Lady Yotes host No. 5 ranked Southern Oregon tomorrow night at 5:30 p.m.
NOTES: Since beginning the season 0-7, the Lady Yotes have won 11 of their last 16 games; it marked the first win for C of I against a Top-25 team since Jan. 3, 2015 – a 58-50 win over then No. 24 Concordia-Portland; it was C of I's first overtime win since a 73-71 victory at Corban in 2012-13.
