Geoducks Lose Final Non-Conference Match
TACOMA - Puget Sound scored a goal in the first half and added two insurance tallies in the final period to beat The Evergreen State College, 3-0, in a non-conference women's soccer match played Sunday afternoon at East Field.
For the Geoducks (0-3-1), it was the final non-conference match of the season, all coming against teams from the NCAA Division III Northwest Conference.
The host Loggers (2-1-1) got the only score they would need 12:59 into the match from Genevieve Cheatham, with Gabbie Berg picking up the assist. By the half, Puget Sound held an 11-4 advantage in shots.
Puget Sound added its second goal at 66:30 with Kendra Elderkin finishing with a diving header, and the last goal came at 72:07 from Lura Morton.
The Geoducks had their best two chances in the closing minutes but shots by Madison Early and Delaney Rice were stopped by Puget Sound reserve goalkeeper Paulina Thrasher, who recorded three saves in the final 15 minutes.
Puget Sound totaled 17 shots and seven corner kicks compared to eight shots and one corner kick for the Geoducks.
Rachel McClure and Emily Sorenson split time in goal for the Geoducks, McClure finishing with three saves and Sorenson recording one.
Evergreen opens its Cascade Collegiate Conference schedule at 1 p.m. Friday when the Corban Warriors invade Geoduck Pitch.
