Thomson Terrel Nets Twice but Corban Prevails
Hunter Thomson Terrel put The Evergreen State College ahead in the opening minute, but the visiting Corban Warriors scored the next four goals in taking a 4-2 Cascade Collegiate Conference women's soccer victory over host The Evergreen State College on a warm Friday afternoon at Geoduck Pitch.
The match was the conference opener for both teams.
The Geoducks (0-4-1 overall, 0-1-0) took a quick lead when Thomson Terrel quickly took a free kick from about 25 yards directly in front of the goal following a Corban foul. Her blast beat Warriors keeper Sheyenne Brusven inside the left post just 50 seconds into the contest.
That was Thomson Terrel's first goal of the season, and she added another on a penalty kick at 86:08, but the Warriors (4-3-0 overall, 1-0-0 CCC) had the run of play in between those two goals.
Ali Oatridge scored the first of her two goals at 6:51 to tie the game, and Lexi McQueary gave her team a 2-1 advantage at 27:04. Oatridge gave the Warriors a 3-1 halftime lead when she tallied her second goal at 31:27.
Corban made the score 4-1 on Julie Kashubin's tally at 49:22, and it stayed that way until the closing minutes until Thomson Terrel drilled her penalty shot right down the middle following a Corban foul in the box.
Picking up assists for the Warriors were Annouschka Kordom, Kashubin and McQueary.
Corban had a 25-7 advantage in shots and also took 12 corner kicks to just one for the Geoducks.
Thomson Terrel led Evergreen with four shots, three of which were on target.
Rachel McClure finished with six saves for Evergreen and Brusven had a pair of stops for Corban.
Both teams are back in action tomorrow at 1 p.m., Evergreen hosting Northwest Christian and Corban facing Northwest University in Kirkland.
