Lions Sink Yellowstone in Season Opening Win

PORTLAND - Scoring their second highest total in program history, the Multnomah University women's basketball team jumped out to a strong start in the 2018-19 season, defeating Yellowstone Christian College 88-74 in their season opener on Jim Skagen Court.

GAME SUMMARY:
- - Yellowstone had the edge over the Lions to start the game, ending the first quarter with a 29-25 lead.
- - MU opened the second quarter with a 19-3 run to pull ahead of the visitors 44-32 before taking a three-point lead into the halftime break.
- - The Lions shot 46 percent from the field, including a 50 percent mark from beyond the arc, going 13-26 on the day. Yellowstone was held to 37 percent shooting and was behind in rebounds 48-40.
- - MU's lead grew to 13 in the third quarter before setting on a 63-54 advantage heading into the final quarter of play.
- - The Lions outscored YCC 25-20 in the fourth quarter, starting the season off with a victory.
KEY PERFORMERS:
- - In her first game in the green and gold, Sequoia Wheeler led the Lions with 17 points, scoring 14 in the first half. Behind her was Kayla Alvarez with 13 points and Bethany George with 11 points.
- - Erykah Campbell led MU with eight rebounds while Paris Sanders collected seven boards.
- - In her first game back as a Lion, Milan Woods finished with 10 points, four steals and added three rebounds.
- - Also contributing was Alaygza Portis with nine points and Celeste Browne with seven points and six assists.
