GREAT FALLS, Mont. – A hard-fought contest between the No. 14 team in the nation ended without a goal as the University of Providence men's soccer team drew with Southern Oregon University, 0-0, on Friday afternoon at Argo Field.
The Argos (7-5-3, 6-3-3 Frontier) produced an extremely stout defensive performance to hold the No. 14 Raiders scoreless through two overtime periods.
The first half was an even one for both teams as the Argos committed two shots, one from Cole Koenig and one from Luis Macias, while the Raiders attempted four shots in the final 20 minutes of the half. Neither team could find the net as the match remained at a standstill headed into the break.
The Raiders came out on a mission during the second half as they controlled the ball for most of the period, leading with nine shots, while the Argos couldn't find a look, but a phenomenal defensive performance was able to send the match to overtime.
Southern Oregon looked to close out the match within the opening minutes of overtime as they attempted two shots in a little over a minute of play. Both teams tallied shots during the final 10 minutes of play, but again nothing was able to be netted as the game ended in a scoreless draw.
The Argos led in saves with five to the Raiders two, while 67 percent of the Argos shots were on goal.
