LA GRANDE, Ore. – The No. 21 Eastern Oregon men’s basketball team was defeated 92-77 by Oregon Tech on Friday night in Cascade Collegiate Conference play, dropping their third game in a row.

With the results, the Mounties (20-7, 12-7 CCC) are expected to finish fifth in the conference, putting them on the road in the CCC Tournament Quarterfinals on Wednesday.

Sophomore guard Max McCullough was the top-scorer for the Mounties with 29 points, shooting 8-for-16 from the field and 5-of-9 from behind the arc. He also knocked down all eight of his free throw attempts, leading the Mounties to a 21-for-24 game from the charity stripe. Senior guard Brennan Pope had 16 points and six rebounds and freshman guard Jordan May scored 14 points.

The Blue and Gold was overmatched in inside, scoring 22 points in the paint, while Oregon Tech scored 40. The Mounties were also held to a low shooting percentage of 37.5 and 27.6 percent from the three-point arc.

Andrew Weber led the Owls, (20-9, 13-6) who are receiving votes in the NAIA Top-25 Poll, to victory, scoring 21 points on a perfect 10-for-10 shooting. Mitchell Fink helped with some clutch shots down the stretch to keep EOU out of range of a comeback, finishing with 19 points. OIT moves into a tie for third place with a chance at finishing second in the CCC with one game remaining.

The Mountaineers started the game slow, shooting 31.4% from the field in the first half, against 57.1% shooting from Oregon Tech. The Owls never trailed in the game, leading for all but 16 seconds.

The Mounties started the second half on a run of 10 points, cutting the lead down to 9. However, the Owls responded to the run with a run of their own and increased the lead back to double-digits, winning the game 92-77.

McCullough, May, Pope and senior wing Austin Winegar all exceeded 30 minutes in the game, with each playing all but the final minute of the second half. The Owls showed their overall depth, with no players playing more than 27 minutes and eight playing at least 10 minutes.

The Mountaineers will be back in action Saturday night against rival Southern Oregon for White Out and Senior Night as their five seniors will be playing their final regular season games in Quinn Coliseum. Tip off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
