Boxers Sweep Doubleheader from Eagles 2/18/2018 7:53:15 PM FOREST GROVE, Ore. – Pacific University swept a doubleheader over Northwest University in non-league games on a cool and wet Sunday afternoon on Sherman/Larkins Field. Game 1 – Pacific 4, Northwest U 3 With wet weather causing a weather delay between innings, the Boxers from Pacific scored early and late to take game one with a 4-3 victory. The Boxers got on the scoreboard in the first inning scoring 3 runs on a single hit with two Eagle errors. Nicole Martinez scored the first run for Pacific on a NU fielding fielder’s choice after leading off the inning with a single and stolen base. They picked up another run on an Eagle throwing error and brought their third run across on a sacrifice bunt by Haley Kodama. Northwest U got two runs back following the stoppage for rain, when Darian Godfrey and Yeawa Asabi led off the inning with back-to-back singles. Godfrey then stole third and scored on a throwing error. Asabi then scored on another Boxer fielding error after advancing to third base. Pacific got the game winner in the bottom of the 5th inning when Jill Uyeda scored from third base on a ground ball to second base giving the Boxers the 4-2 lead. The Eagles got run back in the top of the 6th inning when Maggie Harshaw drove in Yeawa Asabi with a single through the left side, but that would be all the Eagles could score in the inning as Pacific would fail to get a base runner in the 7th. Yeawa Asabi got two of Northwest U’s (1-2) hits in the game going 1 for 2 and scoring two runs. Darian Godfrey was 1 for 3 and scored the Eagles other run of the game. Hannah Yelas had another strong outing in the circle giving up just 4 hits and 1 earned run. Nicole Martinez led Pacific (1-0) going 2 for 3 with teammate Hailey Miller driving finishing with 2 RBI. Ashley Martin picked up the win as she went the distance giving up 4 hits while striking out 6 Eagles. Game 2 – Pacific 10, Eagles 2 (5 innings) Pacific put together a three run 3rd inning and six run 4th inning to take game two of the doubleheader, 10-2, in 5 innings. Both teams scored a run in the first inning and with the game tied in the bottom of the 3rd inning, the Boxers’ Trisha Snyder singled in a run and then Haley Kodama hit a two run home run over the left field fence to put Pacific up 4-1. The Eagles scored a run in the 4th inning when Maggie Harshaw walked and later scored on a ground ball to the short stop making it a 4-2 game. The Boxers answered in a big way in their half of the 4th inning when they got one run on a throwing error and two more on a double by Jill Uyeda. They then scored another run on NU throwing error and Montana Vaught then hit a two out, two run triple to right field for runs five and six. Pacific’s defense would then go to work in the 5th inning and end the game with two ground balls and a pop up. Northwest U (1-3) was led by Alicia Loiler’s 1 for 2 day with one RBI and Sammi Caron went 1 for 3 and scored a run. Yeawa Asabi and Carly Tighe both went 1 for 2. Stephanie Granger took the loss in the circle for the Eagles going three innings, giving up 4 runs on 5 hits. Morgan Masters got the win in the circle for Pacific (2-0) pitching a 4-hitter and giving up 2 runs with 4 strikeouts. Haley Kodama and Montana Vaught led the Boxers with two RBI each with Kodama going 2 for 3 and scored two runs. Vaught was 1 for 1 as a pinch hitter. Jill Uyeda was 2 for 3, scored once and added a RBI.
