Knight VB Drops Two at HIU Summer Slam
FULLERTON, Calif. - The Warner Pacific volleyball team opened the 2018 season with two losses on day one of the HIU Summer Slam.
The Knights faced La Sierra University in the early morning match (8am), falling in four sets (21-25, 25-20, 23-25, 16-25). Melisa Ljuca paced the attack with 13 kills, while Haley Yoder contributed eight kills and six blocks in her Knight debut. A positive for WP was 10 service aces - Margie Brammer led the team with three.
The second match featured WPU versus the tournament host Hope International University. The Knights started well and managed to grind out a win in set one, but dropped the next three to the Royals. Newcomer Audree Gormanson came alive for 18 kills, matching Melisa Ljuca for match high honors. Macy DuCoeur came on strong in the final two sets to finish with nine kills.
Setter Kealia Rosa set the table as usual for WPU, racking up 76 assists during the two matches. Meghan Turner led the defense with 40 total digs.
The Knights will take on Embry Riddle and Benedictine-Mesa tomorrow for day 2 of the tournament.
