EOU Women’s Soccer Notches First CCC Win Over (RV) SOU 9/22/2018 12:15:04 AM LA GRANDE, Ore. - Two second half goals gave the EOU women's soccer team its first conference win of the season, defeating rival Southern Oregon 2-0 on Friday night at Community Stadium in Cascade Collegiate Conference play. With the game scoreless, the Mountaineers (5-1-1, 1-1-1 CCC) put on a flurry of shots finally resulting in a goal by senior captain Taylor Boyer in the 66th minute. The midfielder put the Mounties in front after receiving a ball from junior Jenna Jensen in open space, booting the ball out of junior goalkeeper Kailey Lemon's reach. The goal was Boyer's fourth of the season. "It was great seeing the ladies come out and play the way we know they are capable," said assistant coach Bobbye Pendleton. "I know the team wanted to go out and get a win so it was nice to see them succeed." Just minutes after Boyer's go-ahead goal, freshman Mackinley Gregus netted her team-best fifth goal of the season to give EOU a cushion. Gregus buried her shot in the net off of a Boyer through ball, extending the Mountaineers lead to 2-0. The first half was tightly played, with both sides earning equal opportunities to score. The Mounties put up 11 shots to the Raiders' six in the opening 45 minutes. A relentless attack in the second half by Eastern Oregon resulted in a 14-7 shot advantage and, more importantly, the only two goals of the match. EOU finished with a 25-13 lead in shots. Boyer led both teams in shots, recording a career-high 10 on the evening. No other player had more than three shots as the All-American was difficult to stop all night. Defensively, both Cydni Cottrell and Lemon recorded four saves on the night. "We are eager and can't wait to take on Oregon Tech on Sunday," said Pendleton. The Mountaineers return to Community Stadium on Sunday, hosting Oregon Tech at 1:30 p.m. For more information on Eastern Oregon women's soccer, follow @EOUAthletics or visit eousports.com.
