EUGENE, Ore. – The Northwest Christian University men’s soccer team suffered their first CCC loss of the season on Friday afternoon, falling to the University of Providence, 1-0.
The Argos (4-1, 1-1 CCC) held a 14-8 lead in shots while holding the Beacons (2-4-1, 1-1-1) to just two shots-on-goal.
Providence controlled the better part of the first half, taking four shots on goal but weren’t able to find the back of the net. It took just five minutes of play in the second half, however, for UP to post the game-winner as Luis Macias took a shot pass from Gunmundur Gundmundsson and fired the ball under the NCU keeper from ten feet out.
Argo net-minder Marc Girones registered the shutout as he made two second-half saves on framed shots from Alex Abalan and Blake Doran. Julian Hernandez recorded six shutouts in taking the loss for the Beacons.
The Beacons will return to action on Saturday evening as they play host to Carroll College at 7:00 pm. Providence heads to Salem where they will face off against Corban University at 3:30 pm.
