Mounties Clinch CCC Tournament Berth with 9-0 Win on Senior Day

LA GRANDE, Ore. – The Eastern Oregon men's soccer team officially clinched its second-straight berth into the Cascade Collegiate Conference Championships with a 9-0 win over Multnomah on Senior Day, Sunday at Community Stadium.

The Mountaineers (9-8-1, 7-6-0 CCC) earned the No. 6-seed for the CCC Championships next week, taking on No. 3-seed Southern Oregon in the quarterfinals. EOU fell to SOU on the road earlier this year 2-0, but were down to 10 men for over 80 minutes of the match.

On Sunday, EOU celebrated the careers of its eight seniors who were playing their final regular season matches on their home field. Pregame, the Mounties honored seniors Jack Rose, Oscar Munoz, Elvis Pavon, Jorge Chavez, Josh Ebel, Alex Gutierrez, Oscar Alegria and Micah Hill.

It was the seniors that led the team to victory over the Lions, as they accounted for six of the team's nine goals and many of the assists.

Hill got the scoring started in the 14th minute, following up with his second goal of the game on a header less than two minutes later. Gutierrez and junior Erik Mattice drew the assists.

Junior Patrick Larsen then had back-to-back goals in the 35th and 41st minutes to make it 4-0, assisted by Chavez and junior Javier Moran.

Gutierrez scored his senior goal in the 47th minute on a beautiful header set up on a cross by Ebel. Sophomore Felipe Madero entered the scoring in the 49th minute, assisted by Alexander Zuluaga.

Ebel then finished a penalty kick for his first career goal, which erupted both the crowd and EOU bench in celebration for the La Grande native. Jack Rose scored a goal in the 61st minute and was followed just seconds later by Ebel for his second of the match, making it 9-0.

The Mounties finished with a 39-1 lead in total shots and 20-1 in shots on goal in a dominating effort. Max Rose had the 90-minute shutout in goal.

EOU will get set for the CCC Championships next, which begin Tuesday, Nov. 12 in Spring Field, Oregon. The Mounties will take on Southern Oregon at 2 p.m. in the quarterfinals.
