11 C of I Players Score in 81-47 Win Over Multnomah
CALDWELL, Idaho – A stretch of 23 consecutive points for The College of Idaho in the first quarter helped build a large lead early in an 81-47 win over Multnomah on Saturday night.
Up 7-6 less than three minutes into the game, the Yotes (4-7, 2-0 CCC) ignited the 23-0 run with a Kiersten Rasmussen jumper. The Lions (2-5, 0-2 CCC) were then held without a point until Rachelle Tau tallied a basket 15 seconds into the first possession of the second quarter.
Leading 30-6 after 10 minutes of play, C of I would extend the lead to as large as 43 points in the third quarter, marking the largest advantage for the team at any point this season.
A strong second quarter further pushed the lead to 56-14 at the half, with the 56 points the most in a half for the Yotes since putting up 50 in the final 20 minutes against Warner Pacific on senior night last season.
Mackenzie Royce-Radford posted another strong effort against Multnomah, scoring 18 points on 6-of-9 shooting, with five rebounds, three assists and two steals.
It was a balanced scoring attack beyond Royce-Radford, with 11 players registering points, including nine with five or more. C of I also assisted on 16 of 27 made baskets, with Mackenzie Collins pacing the squad with four assists.
The bench was effective throughout the contest for the Yotes, contributing 43 points on the night, led by Kaylee Krusemark with 10 on 3-of-8 shooting from the floor and 2-of-4 from outside.
Emma Anthony had eight rebounds for C of I, with fellow freshmen Lexi Mitchell (6) and Allie Cannon (6) also making large impacts on the glass in what was a dominant performance, outrebounding the Lions 53-36.
After shooting 19-of-35 (54 percent) in the first half, the Yotes ended the night 27-of-73 (37 percent), including 10-of-27 (37 percent) on 3-pointers. The home team was efficient from the line, knocking down 17-of-19 (90 percent) at the charity stripe.
For the second time in four games, C of I also held an opponent without a 3-pointer, as Multnomah went 0-for-14 from distance. Prior to last Friday against Carroll, the Yotes had not held an opponent without a 3-pointer since December of 2012 in a 78-56 win over Evergreen, a stretch that spanned 193 games.
The 81 points is a season high for the Yotes and the 47 yielded is a season low for C of I allowed to an opponent.
Erykah Campbell added a double-double with 21 points and 12 rebounds in the loss for the Lions.
The Yotes have a week off from conference action next week, with an exhibition battle with rival Northwest Nazarene on Saturday in Nampa the lone game on tap.
