Mountaineers Hold On To 83-80 Win Over Evergreen

OLYMPIA, Wash. – Hard fought battle Friday night against The Evergreen State College men’s basketball team and Eastern Oregon. The Mountaineers held onto the 83-80 win.

EOU was led by Jarek Schetzle, who had 29 points, Max McCullough and Landon Jones both recorded 16 points and Josh Brown had 12 points.

Evergreen was led by LaBrandon Price, who had 25 points, Raven Frazier added 17 points and Lane Kennedy recorded 13 points.

The Geoducks scored the first ponts of the game with a three from Lane Kennedy. The Mountaineers then went on a 13-2 run to take the eight-point lead. Evergreen went on a 8-0 run to tie the game and then Frazier had a layup to give Evergreen the lead. EOU tied the game but Evergreen held onto the lead. The teams went back and forth until the Geoducks went on a run and had a eight-point lead. EOU ended the half on a 11-0 run and 44-41 lead into the half.

After the half, EOU had its largest lead of 10 with 12:49 but Evergreen came right back and tied the game at 67 with 5:40 left in the game. The game would be tied one more time but Evergreen never was able to take back the lead and EOU made its free throws to hold onto the win. 

The Mountaineers shot 52.7 percent from the floor and 50 percent from the 3-point line. Evergreen shot 48.5 percent from the floor and 40 percent from the 3-point line.

Eastern Oregon recorded 18 turnovers for the game, six of those came in the first eight minutes of the game.
