Women's Basketball 2/6/2020 12:07:00 AM Iain Dexter, EOU Sports Information Director Mounties Run Winning Streak to 8 Games with 78-68 Win over Yotes LA GRANDE, Ore. – The Eastern Oregon women's basketball team extended its season-best winning streak to eight games as they took down the College of Idaho 78-68 on Wednesday night in the War on 84 in Cascade Conference play. The Mountaineers ( ) had an efficient shooting night in all three phases, making over 50 percent of their shots from the floor, over 40 percent from behind the arc and over 80 percent from the free throw line. EOU had four scorers in double-digits, paced by senior Jane Nelson's 17 points, her third in a row of 15 or more. Junior Jillian Albright added 12 points off the bench on 5-for-7 shooting. Senior Rachel Fielder and junior Megan Still each had 10 points while junior Taylor Stricklin posted nine points and eight rebounds. HOW IT HAPPENED The Mounties outscored the Yotes 44-34 in the first half and kept pace in the final 20 minutes to down C of I. The Blue and Gold only trailed once all game by a 7-6 score with 4:34 left in the first before jumping ahead by five. Two and a half minutes into the fourth quarter and the Mounties cruised out to a game-high 17-point lead that put the game essentially out of reach. The Yotes threatened late by cutting the deficit to eight, but it was with just 17 seconds remaining and was too little, too late. The Mountaineer defense limited the Yotes to just 20 percent shooting from behind the arc on 15 shots. C of I shot 40 percent overall from the floor. BY THE NUMBERS 32 – The two teams combined for 32 made free throws, each shooting over 70 percent from the charity stripe. 1 – EOU's perimeter defense was suffocating and held the Yotes to just one made three pointer in the second half, despite attempting the late comeback. 17 – Three players scored 17 points including Nelson, and C of I's Mackenzie Royce-Radford and Lexi Mitchell.
