CORVALLIS, Ore. – Heading into the 2020-21 year, 24 student-athletes were named to the Cascade Collegiate Conference Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), representing their schools.
Persia Anderson is one of Multnomah University’s two representatives. The Post Falls, Idaho, native is a senior cross country and track and field athlete and chose MU because of the atmosphere and where the university is located.
“I immediately fell in love with the secluded and intimate atmosphere on campus, paired with the bustling and food cart filled city of Portland,” said Anderson. “The location is the best of both worlds.”
The English major – with a minor in history – knew English was what she wanted to study going into college, but her professors at MU have deepened her love for the subject.
“I love my English class lectures,” said Anderson. “I knew I wanted to be an English major before, but Multnomah's professors opened the door to a new and deeper appreciation for good books and good authors.”
Last year, Anderson’s track and field season was cut short due to the coronavirus pandemic, but she hasn’t let her athletic status define her.
“Ironically, being an athlete at Multnomah has taught me that my identity extends beyond just my sports,” said Anderson. “I've learned that I am made for more and I am thankful to understand that now rather than years down the road.”
During her time at MU, Anderson has grown not only as an athlete, but as a student and in her faith.
“I would not be at Multnomah if it wasn't for the women's soccer coach and the track and field coach,” said Anderson. “Not only have they mentored me in athletics, but they have been extremely helpful when it comes to classes, ‘adulting,’ and my faith.”
When not practicing, competing or studying, Anderson can usually be found out and about shopping.
“If I have any free time, it is dangerous to my bank account,” said Anderson. “Trying good food around the area and going shopping is a fun day no matter where you are or what the weather looks like.”
Anderson is set to graduate next year and plans to get married in the summer. She also plans on taking the LSAT.
As a SAAC rep, Anderson hopes to “be a good voice to speak on behalf of [her] Multnomah family.”
