No. 9 EOU Completes Sweep of Providence

LA GRANDE, Ore. - Eastern Oregon University Women’s Soccer proved to be too much for the University Providence (0-4, 0-4), as the Mounties scored a season-high five goals in their shutout victory over the Argos on Monday afternoon inside Community Stadium. With the win, EOU improves to 7-0-1 on the season and 5-0-1 in Cascade Collegiate Conference East Divisional play.
 
Four different Mountaineers scored on Monday starting with back to back goals by Senior Morgan Farrington in the sixth and 14th minute of play. EOU was aggressive on the offensive end the entire first half putting up 12 total shots in the period while limiting the Argos to only two.

The Mountaineers scored their third goal of the contest in the 36th minute when Freshman Mackensie Connelly was able to find the back of the net on an assist from Mackinley Gregus for her first goal of the season.

Senior Korilynn Goller added a goal of her own only four minutes later when she was able to convert on the pass Gregus once again. This gave the Mounties a 4-0 lead heading into the half. The Argos were able to limit the offensive opportunities in the second half for the Mounties, holding them to only five shots compared to the 12 from the first half.

EOU, however, was able to add to their lead in the 68th minute when Kaitlyn McLeod was able to find the right side of the net off the perfect pass from Mackensie Conelly. This gave the Mounties a commanding 5-0 advantage.

EOU’s defense remained sharp in the second half not allowing any shots in the period en route to their seventh shutout of the season. For the game, the Mounties outshot Providence 17-2 overall and 9-0 shots on goal. EOU was called for six fouls, while Providence had three.
 
Morgan Farrington led the Mountaineers with two goals on four shots with three coming on goal. Mackinley Gregus ended the contest with two assists and two shots, both of which on goal. Mackenzie Connelly picked up a goal and an assist for EOU. Kaitlyn McLeod had a goal for the Mounties on one shot. Korilynn Goller also had a goal on one shot in the win. In net, Savannah Hutchinson posted a shutout in 90 minutes of action.
 
Bri Wikert and Kylee Manning both had a shot for the Argos in the loss.Goalkeeper Dakota Neumann picked up four saves in 45 minutes for the Argos.

The Mountaineers will head to Caldwell, ID to face College of Idaho in a two game series to end Cascade Collegiate Conference play. These games are set for March 28 and 29 at 10 a.m. PT.
