ASHLAND, Ore. – Corban University’s Valerie Schmidt won the Heptathlon Championship and Eastern Oregon University’s TJ Davis won the decathlon championship on the final day of the Cascade Collegiate Conference Track and Field Multis Championship, presented by U.S. Bank.
Schmidt took home the women’s title with a score of 4,772, along with All-Cascade Collegiate Conference honors. After a solid first day – where she held over a 250-point lead – Schmidt grabbed second in both the long jump (5.14 meters) and the javelin (35.11 meters) to keep her lead. She finished the day with a fifth-place finish in the 800-meter (2:30.31), never letting go of her lead.
There was a battle for second through fourth as Eastern Oregon University’s Olivia Lane took second with a 4,419 for all-conference honors. She finished in seventh in the long jump (5.07 meters), before taking ninth in the javelin (27.26 meters). It came down to the final discipline – the 800-meter race – where Lane won the race in 2:24.90 to secure second overall.
Just six points separated third and fourth with Southern Oregon University’s Camdyn Bruner finishing in third with a 4,340, grabbing All-CCC honors with it. She jumped into the top-five after entering the day in seventh. Bruner finished sixth in the long jump (5.09 meters) and fourth in the javelin (33.68 meters), before putting in a strong final kick in the 800-meter race to grab second with a time of 2:26.84.
Warner Pacific University’s Savannah Proske grabbed fourth with a score of 4,334 after starting the day with a first-place finish in the long jump (5.22 meters). She took third in the javelin (34.48 meters) and 14
th in the 800m (2:39.78).
SOU’s Julia Delucchi finished in fifth at 4,137 points. She took fourth in the long jump (5.11 meters), 14
th in the javelin (21.84 meters) and 13
th in the 800m (2:39.19).
On the men’s side, Davis started the day with a win in the 110-meter high hurdles (14.89 seconds) to slide into first place. It was a battle the rest of the day as he went back-and-forth between first and second before securing the win with 6,496 points for All-CCC honors. Davis finished in sixth in the discus (31.96 meters), fifth in the pole vault (3.80 meters), eighth in the javelin (44.69 meters), and fifth in the 1500m (4:47.73).
Oregon Tech’s Hunter Drops made a huge climb after starting the day in sixth place to finish in second with a score of 6,438, also securing All-Cascade Collegiate Conference recognition. He posted a time of 17.23 seconds in the 110m high hurdles (13
th) and a mark of 31.42 meters in the discus (seventh), before putting in a solid final push with two discipline wins. Drops posted 4.80 meters in the pole vault (first) and 70.93 meters in the javelin (first) to jump into the top spot, but ultimately slipped to second after finishing the 1500m in 5:30.64 (12
th).
College of Idaho’s Caleb Brown took third with a score of 6,301 to also grab all-conference honors. He started the day with a 17.11-second 110-meter high hurdles performance (12
th), before taking second in the discus at 39.34 meters. Brown posted a fourth-place score of 3.90 meters in the pole vault and a seventh-place mark of 44.99 meters in the javelin. He capped the day with a 4:40.24 in the 1500m (third).
Southern Oregon University’s Joseph Dotson finished in fourth with a score of 6,210. He kept pace with his Thursday performance with top-two finishes in the first two events, taking second in the 110m high hurdles (15.46 seconds) and first in the discus (39.95 meters). Unfortunately, he couldn’t clear the pole vault, resulting in a “no height” score for no points. Dotson dusted himself off, however, and kept pushing and posted 48.97 meters in the javelin (third) and won the 1500m to cap the day (4:37.41).
Fellow Raider Solomon Tinnon rounded out the top-five at 5,971. He took fourth in the 110m high hurdles (15.90 seconds) and third in the discus with a mark of 37.92 meters. Tinnon then finished 10
th in the pole vault (3.40 meters), ninth in the javelin (44.61 meters), and 13
th in the 1500m (5:35.96).
