College of Idaho Wins Women's CCC Outdoor Crown, Yotes and Mountaineers Share Men's Title

LA GRANDE, Ore. - Day two of the Cascade Collegiate Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships presented by U.S. Bank wrapped up Saturday afternoon at Banner Bank Track Complex on the campus of Eastern Oregon University. It was a sweep as The College of Idaho took home the team title for both the men and women. On the men’s side it was a tie for the men’s team title as EOU and C of I both scored 203 points. The C of I women won with 244 points.
The battle for the men’s title came down to the last race as Eastern Oregon held a 198-197 lead over C of I going into the 4x400-meter relay. The Yotes secured a third place finish in the 4x400, while Eastern was fourth to end the two-day meet in a tie. Finishing third for the men was Southern Oregon University with 171 points.
The Yotes easily won the women’s team title by 44.5 points ahead of second place Eastern Oregon who had 199.5 points for the two-day meet. Taking home a third place finish as a team was Southern Oregon with 125 points.
Winning Women’s Track Athlete of the Meet was Larissa Mauer of C of I, while Olivia Lane of Eastern Oregon was named the Women’s Field Athlete of the Meet. EOU swept the men's awards as Cody Milmine was named Men’s Track Athlete of the Meet, while Allexander Kosel was named Men’s Field Athlete of the Meet.
The 2021 Women’s Track & Field Coach of the Year award was awarded to Austin Basterrchea of College of Idaho. Ben Welch of EOU was named the Men’s Track & Field Coach of the Year. In all, five facility records were broken on day two as well as two CCC Championship meet records. Over the two-day span, a total of 12 facility records fell, while five CCC meet records were broken.
Running Events
In the first race of the day in the 100-meter dash, it was the speed of EOU’s Cody Milmine that highlighted the men’s race. He was the CCC Champion with a new meet and facility record time of 10.53 seconds. In the women’s race, Lindsey Bonney of SOU was the event champion with a winning time of 11.90 seconds.
The women’s 800-meter run saw EOU’s Michelle Herbes earn her second CCC Title as she won the two-lap race in 2:15.34. In the men’s race, Clayton VanDyke Lewis-Clark State College stole the show setting a new facility record with a time of 1:51.83 and won the race by over 3.5 seconds.
The 400-meter hurdles belonged to Ashley Britt of LC State on the women’s side as she won the one-lap obstacle race in a time of 64.50 seconds. Warrior teammate Rebekka Kalmbach had a third place finish in the race in a time of 65.03. In the men’s 400 hurdles, Lane Maher of C of I took home the CCC crown in a time of 53.72 seconds.
The third to last race was the 200-meter dash and it was a sweeping win for EOU. Jasmine Devers was the women’s champion in a time of 24.18, while Cody Milmine won the men’s race in 21.73. For Milmine, the win wrapped up a sweep for him in both the 100 and 200.
In the women’s 5,000-meter run, C of I went 1-2 in the race to lead the way. Larissa Mauer was the event champion in a time of 17:58.28, which is a new EOU facility record. Teammate Ellyse Tingelsted was second, running an 18:12.19. In the men’s 5,000, Travis Running of EOU won the race in a time of 15:11.37.
The women’s 4x400-meter relay was won by LC State as the group ran a combined time of 3:58.85 and won by over four seconds. In the men’s relay race, it was Southern Oregon that took home the CCC Title with a final time of 3:19.35.
Field Events
The first event to finish up was the women’s discus throw. Maggie Ledbetter of EOU secured her second CCC title with a winning throw of 147-8.
In the sand pit, it was Brittany Coleman of Warner Pacific University who walked away the women’s triple jump champion with a leap of 39-5 ½. Her mark is a new CCC meet and EOU facility record. On the men’s side, Kosel completed the sweep with a mark of 46-1 ½ to walk away a three-time CCC Champion.
The women’s pole vault saw Lewis-Clark State College secure the top-two spots. Madison Carson was the overall champion, clearing 11-7 ¾. Teammate Cynthia Smith was second in the event with a height of 11-3 ¾.
In the second to last throwing event of the meet, the men’s discus throw, it was C of I that secured the CCC title, and the Yotes had the top-two finishes in the event. Bryan Terry was the CCC Champion with a throw of 156-2, while Campbell secured a runner-up finish with a mark of 152-6.
Oregon Tech took home both titles in the javelin throw as Hunter Drops set an EOU facility record with a mark of 228-7. Alex Conley was the women’s winner at 147-11.
The final field event of the day was the men’s pole vault. The Raiders of Southern Oregon took home the top-two spots to wrap up the Championship meet. Adam O’Brien was the overall winner clearing 16-0 ¾, while teammate Bryan Terry was second clearing the bar at 15-9.
