FOREST GROVE, Ore. – Mountaineers Baseball split its day one series against No. 18 Pacific University as they dropped an 8-7 contest in game one before securing a 4-3 win in game two. With the split, Eastern Oregon is now 4-5 on the year.
Game 1 – No. 18 Pacific 8, Eastern Oregon 7
How it Happened
• The Mountaineers were productive in game one tallying 16 hits, but left eight runners stranded in the loss. Defensively, they had two errors in the contest as well.
• Pacific (3-2) racked up 11 hits en route to its eight runs scored and had no errors in game one.
• For Eastern, all seven runs they scored came in the first two innings. The Boxers battled back from a 7-1 deficit and scored four runs in the second to mount the comeback.
• In the first inning, EOU tallied three hits in the first three at bats. A
Hector Carreon double to left center scored
Austin Gerding to make it 1-0 to start.
• Pacific got one out before two straight hits by EOU brought the score to 4-0.
Garrett Beckman knocked a single to score Carreon before
Donovan Gonzalez smacked a two-run homer.
• The Boxers lone run of the first came thanks to a leadoff triple and the runner ultimately scored on a fielding error. EOU then closed the inning with three straight outs to keep the score at 4-1.
• The Mounties offensive production did not stop in the second as they once again tallied three straight hits. Gerding plated home the first run with a double to right center, scoring
Adrian Roa.
• Two batters later, Carreon singled up the middle to bring home
McKlane Elgin. Mat Garcia added the final run of the game with an RBI double to center, scoring Carreon.
• The Mountaineers six-run lead did not last long as the Boxers tacked on four runs to cut the score to 7-5. EOU managed to get two outs early on but surrendered three hits and had one error.
• The first run for Pacific came on a fielder's choice as an error at shortstop allowed a run to score. With the bases loaded a hit by pitch by Eastern scored the next run to make it 7-3.
• The Boxers then knocked a single to deep center field, scoring two runs. EOU starter
Jaydon Yancey then fanned the final batter to escape the jam to keep the team's lead at two runs.
• After a scoreless third innings, the Boxers tacked on one run in the fourth to make it a one-score game. Following a pitching change,
Kolbe Bales surrendered a walk and two hits before a balk allowed Pacific to score.
• Bales and the Mounties escaped the inning giving up just the one run, but the Pacific defense was stubborn and held the EOU scoreless after surrendering the seven runs.
• The final two runs of the game came in the fifth. EOU managed to force a double play after surrendering back-to-back hits. Pacific then drew a walk and a hit by pitch before a single through the left side scored two runners.
• Pacific held the 8-7 lead through the next four innings. The Mountaineers managed just three hits over the final four frames as the Boxers held on for the series opening win.

Game 2 – Eastern Oregon 4, No. 18 Pacific 3
How it Happened
• Game two was a defensive battle as the two squads combined for just eight hits. Both finished with four apiece and each team had two errors on the day.
• Neither team managed a hit through the first two innings of work. In the second inning, starter
Davis Brown worked a 1-2-3 frame, but Pacific answered doing the same to keep things scoreless.
• The Boxers ended the scoreless game in the third inning, scoring one run. Helping them grab the lead was a pair of EOU errors.
• Neither team scored in the fourth to keep the score at 1-0. Brown went three-up, three-down in the bottom of the frame to keep EOU in striking distance.
• All four runs for the Mountaineers came in the fifth inning. They tallied four hits in the frame as all four runs scored were earned.
• EOU loaded the bases with a leadoff walk and two straight singles. A wild pitch by Pacific allowed
Brooks Dyer to score and tie the game at 1-1.

• Two batters later and a pitching change, Eastern made it a 4-1 game on a
Matt Garcia RBI single to plate home Carreon. Pacific then fanned the next two batters to stop the bleeding.
• Both teams went 1-2-3 in the sixth to keep EOU's lead at three runs. Pacific then added its final two runs in the bottom of the seventh with a two-run homer.
• EOU was held hitless over the final two innings but stout defense helped the team secure the win. Pacific managed a hit in each of the next two frames, but made nothing of it.
