Yotes Complete Series Sweep over Buccaneers

CALDWELL, Idaho - The Yotes baseball team completed the series sweep over the visiting Park-Gilbert, winning by scores of 10-5 and 5-1 in Saturday's action.

GAME 1

The Buccaneers got on the board early, registering three runs in the first inning, off of an RBI single from Aaron Stinnett, a throwing error which Stinnett scored on, and an RBI from Diego Bejarano. The Yotes would follow it up with three of their own in the first inning, as Jonah Hultberg doubled to left center, scoring Tristen Garland, Hultberg scoring on a wild pitch, and a bases loaded walk drawn by Trevor Watkins. The Yotes would then take the lead in the second off an Alex McFarland-Smith RBI single.

Heading into the fifth inning, Park-Gilbert held a one run lead at 5-4, and that's when the Yotes offense took over. Jordan Kelly drove in a run on a groundout to tie the game at 5. Dillon Danner drew a bases loaded walk in the sixth inning put the Yotes back infront, 6-5. Then, a RBI double by Matthew Iwamizu and Cole Roberts drove in his first run as a Yote on a double to right field to add some insurance for the host Yotes.

Colby Durski picked up the win, going four strong innings and striking out one to secure the victory.

GAME 2

Game two saw the two teams scoreless through the first three innings of action. The Yotes' Trevor Watkins ended the scoreless game, scoring Jake Denison and Ben Gaff. A pass ball by the Bucs scored Watkins for a 3-0 lead in favor of the home team. In the fifth, Matthew Iwamizu singled to right field which scored McFarland-Smith from second. The final Yote RBI came from Hultberg, who singled to right field scoring Tyler Lehnertz.

The Buccaneer offense spoiled the shutout bid in the seventh on a RBI single by Joaquin Martinez. College of Idaho pitching limited Park-Gilbert to just six hits, as Maestas and Martinez both had two hits.

Kris Kirkpatrick earned the game two victory, going five innings and only allowing two hits while striking out five. While starting the game in the field, Ben Gaff made the transition to the mound rather seamlessly, pitching the final four innings, allowing the one run and striking out a pair.

The Yotes will return to the diamond in two weeks, taking on Northwest Nazarene in a four game home-and-home series, with the first two games taking place in nearby Nampa, and the series finale taking place at Wolfe Field in Caldwell.
