Oosterhout, Gladfelter Break School Records as Warriors Finish Sixth and Eleventh at George Oja Invite

INDEPENDENCE, Ore. – For a second-consecutive meet, the Corban University Men's and Women's Cross Country programs saw school records fall in the 2025 competitive season, as both the 6k and 8k program records were broken today by the top Warrior finishers at the George Oja Invitational, hosted by NCAA DIII Linfield University at Oak Knoll Golf Course just west of Salem city limits. The Warrior men's team finished 6th among the 32 programs in action, while the women placed 11th out of 31 squads.

"Today was a great day for both of our programs," shared Corban associate head coach Stuart Eagon. "Both Jack and Abigail set new school records, and we are excited to be back at Oak Knoll for the conference meet in under three weeks."

"The women ran a school record for total time for the top five for an 6k today," Coach Eagon continued with regarding the women's race. "They proved that they are a team that should be nationally ranked, especially after having a chance to look around the NAIA at other results today. A 23:04 average for a 6k is leaps and bounds better than we've been, but we still need to improve at our fifth spot by the conference meet to assure qualifying for nationals as a team. Carrie didn't have her best race today and I think she'll be much better at conference as well. Additionally, it's been pretty cool to see Abigail become one of the best runners in the conference this year."

Senior Abigail Oosterhout has taken the Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) by storm this year, as she once again submitted a personal best time of 21:42.7 to break the program record set in 2018 by former Corban student-athlete Hannah Clarizio by nearly four seconds, which subsequently allowed her to finish today's race as the third overall CCC participant and 26th among the entire 352-woman field from NCAA DI down to junior college programs and even unattached open field athletes.

Finishing behind Oosterhout for the Navy and Gold was sophomore Carrie Babcock (22:37.40) who clinched her own PR in the 6k and was the only other Warrior in the top 100 placers with a 70th place finish. Sophomore Shaelee Killorn (23:16.5) traded her soccer cleats for her distance spikes and finished in 108th in her own personal best time, while freshman Adaline McDowell (23:17.2) was just two placements behind Killorn in 110th.

True freshman Amelia Anstrand (24:27.0) concluded the team scoring for the Corban women's cross country team with a 193rd overall finish, with freshman Kate Dickson (25:53.9) serving as the sixth if-necessary team tiebreaker in 269th. The ten-woman Warrior squad clinched three more personal bests, with sophomore Makayla Rose (26:00.0), sophomore Emalie Lindberg (26:25.1), and junior Johnna Waddell (26:28.1) all finishing in the top 300 with their fastest collegiate times to date.

When asked to discuss the men's race, Coach Eagon stated, "The guys were considerably better than at our first full team race today, but we still have work to do before the conference meet. We ran our fastest total time for the top five for an 8k in school history by over two minutes today. In addition to Jack's record, Zander ran a massive personal best, Braydon and Ben also ran personal bests but didn't have their best races today. Logan and Sam did a good job at five and six for us today as well. Ben was forty-five placements higher in the field with less than a mile to go but got a bad stitch and struggled quite a bit at the end. I think Ben, Braydon and Logan will be much better in our next race which will continue to improve our team scoring."

In his second-straight meet of the fall season, junior Jack Gladfelter (23:49.7) broke his own school record that he set just two weeks ago at the Charles Bowles Willamette Invitational, shaving off another three seconds of his previous 8k mark to finish in third overall among the over 400 participants in the men's race. Gladfelter led a brigade of seven-consecutive Warriors to cross the finish line in Independence with personal best times, with senior Zander Moha (24:12.8) crushing his previous mark to nearly clinch a top ten placement but settled for 13th.

After fighting through sickness at the previous meet, junior Braydon Lee (25:02.2) recovered well enough to almost finish sub-25 minutes for the first time in his career, as he placed just outside the top fifty in 52nd. The final Warriors to score team points today were brothers Bennet and Logan Mason, as sophomore Ben (25:19:0) finished in 79th while freshman Logan (25:44.8) was in 106th.

Also completing today's race with personal best times for the Navy and Gold men's program was: freshman Samuel Bonsell (25:57.7 – 126th), senior Nathan Pfaff (26:42.7 – 192nd), senior Noah Andres (27:07.6 – 226th), freshman Julius Pokorny (27:14.4 – 235th), freshman Garrett Frongner (27:38.2 – 267th), freshman Ryder Britton (27:52.6), sophomore Talan Warkentin (29:52.5 – 359th), and freshman Ethan DeyArmin (30:53.1 – 379th).

Both the Corban men's and women's cross country teams will participate in their final regular season meet next Friday on October 24th, as fellow CCC member Bushnell University will host their own fall invitational with the women starting at 12:45pm and the men at 2:15pm at Pine Ridge Golf Club for the Warriors' final opportunity to showcase their skills before they host the 2025 CCC Championships.
