MEDFORD, Ore. — In a match that had everything but a yellow card, the sixth-ranked College of Idaho women's soccer team delivered another chapter in their championship legacy, defeating Eastern Oregon 1-0 in double overtime to capture the Cascade Collegiate Conference Tournament Championship, prestned by U.S. Bank.
The Yotes (17-2-0) secured their third consecutive tournament title and completed the CCC double for the third straight year, having already clinched the regular season crown. It marks the fifth straight appearance in the tournament final for C of I, and once again, they rose to the occasion.
The drama began almost immediately. Just 90 seconds into the match, senior forward Natasja Davis launched herself for a diving header that thundered off the post, narrowly missing what would have been a dream start. That early chance set the tone for a physical, high-stakes battle that stretched across 108 minutes of intense action.
Despite the aggressive play, neither team saw a caution. Eastern Oregon (14-5-2) committed 20 fouls to the Yotes' 7, a disparity that underscored the composure and discipline of The College of Idaho throughout the match.
After 90 minutes, the teams would need extra time to crown a champion. The next goal would be the winner.
The breakthrough came in the 109th minute. After earning a free kick from 30 yards out, midfielder Kyndra Lyons stepped up and delivered a stunning strike that curled past the keeper into the top right corner. It was a goal worthy of a championship.
Goalkeeper Alivia Brenchley was a wall in net, recording three saves to hold the clean sheet. The Yotes outshot the Mountaineers 11-7 and held a 5-3 edge in shots on goal, despite Eastern Oregon earning six corner kicks to the Yotes' one.
With the CCC title secured, The College of Idaho now turns its attention to the NAIA Women's Soccer National Championship. Their opponent and opening-round location will be revealed during the NAIA Selection Show on Friday, November 14 at 5 p.m. MT.
