CLACKAMAS, Ore. – Eastern Oregon University Men’s Wrestling wrapped up a full weekend of competition with a young roster at the Clackamas Open, hosted by Clackamas Community College. The smaller tournament featured eight teams along with several unattached athletes, and the Mounties came away with two podium finishers. Brode Colwell claimed 2nd place at 133 pounds, while Kylan Guerra battled to a 5th-place finish at 174.
Colwell started his day with a bye before rolling to two dominant wins over competitors from Clackamas and Linfield. He opened with a 12-3 major decision, then followed it with a pin at the 4:12 mark to secure his spot in the championship match. Colwell ultimately fell to Clackamas’ Pariz Ruiz in the final, earning a strong runner-up finish.
Guerra also began with a bye and quickly built momentum with two convincing victories. He earned a first-period pin in his opening match and then notched a commanding 17-2 technical fall. With a larger bracket at his weight, Guerra faced additional rounds and dropped two competitive decisions, 8-2 and 12-6. He closed out his tournament on a high note, defeating Clackamas’ Sobomehin 5-2 to take 5th place.
Matix Cooklin made a notable run in his bracket, beginning with a tight 13-12 win over SOU’s Noah McKenzie. After a narrow 8-6 loss, he rebounded with an 8-3 victory against Clackamas’ George Knovchegov. Cooklin’s day ended in another close bout, falling 4-2 to SOU’s Mikey Ladkani.
Braxton Smith and Ethan Owens each finished 1-2 on the day, while Harley Denison and Deklin Graham went 0-2.
The Mounties return to action on Saturday, December 13, traveling to Great Falls, Montana, for a dual against the University of Providence. Competition is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m. MT.
