CORVALLIS, Ore. – Corban University’s David Rubio was named the 2024-25 Cascade Collegiate Conference Men’s Wrestler of the Year following a remarkable final season as a Warrior. Arizona Christian University’s Sean Archuleta earned the inaugural CCC Newcomer and Freshman of the Year honors, announced Thursday by the conference office.
Rubio, the Salem, Ore., native displayed an extraordinary amount of skill and determination throughout his career. In his last postseason run, the standout 157-pound wrestler not only clinched the National Title but was also voted the Most Outstanding Wrestler of the National Tournament.
Throughout the championship, Rubio dominated his competition, outscoring opponents 52-10 and achieved a remarkable feat of not giving up an offensive point. He has not surrendered a single takedown over the past two years at the national tournament, showcasing his defensive technical excellence.
Rubio concluded the season with an impressive overall record of 26-4, including 21 bonus point victories and one loss attributed to a medical forfeit. His accomplishments this season have been recognized through multiple accolades, including being named the CCC Wrestler of the Week and earning CCC Academic All-Conference honors.
A four-time NAIA All-American and three-time national finalist, Rubio has consistently showcased his exceptional talent on the mat. His conference successes also include four CCC finals appearances and three CCC champion titles, contributing to his impressive career total of 102 wins.
In addition to his athletic achievements, Rubio has been recognized as a two-time NWCA Academic All-American, highlighting his dedication to both academics and athletics.
Archuleta had an outstanding debut season for the Firestorm, concluding with a fourth-place finish at the NAIA Championship and earning All-American honors.
His success on the mat has already made history by breaking the school record for single season wins with 33 victories and setting a new record for technical falls at 15. His impressive performances this year also include winning the prestigious Missouri Valley Invite and clinching the title at the conference championship.
The 133-pound wrestler earned both the inaugural CCC Newcomer and Freshman of the Year awards. Archuleta will build on his achievements in the coming seasons and continue to expand on his early success.
