Gradillas-Flores, Hingano cap impressive tourney runs as Raiders take 6th

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – Lillian Gradillas-Flores and Kat Hingano dominated as No. 11-ranked Southern Oregon collected its second upset win of the NWCA-NAIA National Duals Championships, 23-22 over No. 7 Indiana Tech, before dropping the fifth-place finale 24-11 to No. 5 Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) on Saturday at the UNI-Dome.

The Raiders (3-3 overall) faced a 22-14 deficit against Indiana Tech with two matches to go when their upper-weights came through. Hingano, ranked No. 3 in the NAIA at 180 pounds, pinned Olivia Bodhe in 1:11 to get them within three points and the top-ranked Gradillas-Flores (207) shut out Ellen Ashabranner with a 10-0 technical fall to give them the one-point victory.

SOU dropped its first five matches against Lindsey Wilson before winning four of the next five. Hingano and Makayla Correa (138) pinned their opponents, Gradillas-Flores worked another technical fall and Quilatzli Miguel-Lapham won by decision.

Deandra Meza (117) and No. 11 Jade Morales (131) contributed pins against Indiana Tech – the latter knocked off the No. 9 wrestler in her class – and No. 12 Briseis Serrano (110) won a 6-3 decision against No. 9 Makenzie Smith.

Gradillas-Flores and Hingano both went 5-0 at the tournament. Gradillas-Flores earned bonus points in each of her victories. Correa went 3-1.

The Raiders are home for the first time next Friday, facing Westcliff (Calif.) at 5 p.m.
