Mounties Place 4 and Battle Through New Brackets

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Eastern Oregon (RV) Women's Wrestling team brought four Mounties back for Day Two of the Warrior Open, while several others competed in newly added side brackets.

Gloria Diaz returned to the 117-pound championship bout, where she ultimately fell to Carleigh Czerneski of Adrian (Mich.) to finish as the runner-up.

Kiona Michel also competed in a championship match at 207 pounds but fell to Isabel Anaya of Manchester, earning a second-place finish.

Brooklyn Jones returned for the seventh-place match in the 124-pound bracket and fell to Shai Curtiss of Alma (Mich.) to place eighth. Jones later competed in a new side bracket, earning a technical fall victory over Tilly Kakuk of UCLA before once again falling to Curtiss.

Paige Allen returned to action in the 160-pound bracket. After dropping her first match of the day, Allen closed strong by pinning Cailyn Casto of Point Park in 3:51 to secure a seventh-place finish.

Several Mounties entered new brackets and turned in strong performances, including Lizzy Hodges (160), Hannah Hernandez (160), Isabella Coronado (117), Jocelyn Velasco (145), and Mckayla Bonham (138).

Hodges went 2-0 with a 0:50 fall and an 11-0 technical fall. Hernandez finished 2-1 with pins at 4:09 and 1:58. Coronado posted a perfect 3-0 record with a forfeit, a 10-0 technical fall, and a 1:56 pin. Velasco went 2-1, earning a forfeit and a 4:30 fall, while Bonham finished 2-1 with decision victories of 2-0 and 6-3.

The Mountaineers return home for a big weekend, hosting the Mountaineer Duals on Saturday, January 31, followed by the Mountaineer Women's Open on Sunday.
