CORVALLIS, Ore. – The No. 13-ranked Lewis-Clark State College Women’s Basketball team was named the Under Armour Team of the Week for January 19 – 25, the Cascade Collegiate Conference announced Sunday.
Lewis-Clark State opened the weekend with a commanding 61-44 victory over (RV) College of Idaho, showcasing one of the league’s top defensive efforts. LC State limited the Yotes to just 44 points, held every C of I player under double figures, and forced 21 turnovers that resulted in 18 points. Sitara Byrd led all scorers with 17 points, knocking down three 3-pointers, while Tatum Brager added 14 points off the bench. Darian Herring anchored the team with a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds as the Warriors allowed only eight points in each of the final two quarters.
LC State followed with an impressive 68-59 win over No. 17 Eastern Oregon University on Saturday, breaking open a tight contest with an 18-point run in the fourth quarter. The Warriors shot 56.8 percent from the field and held the Mountaineers to 33.8 percent shooting while going a perfect 13-for-13 from the free-throw line, tying a program record for most made free throws without a miss in a single game. Payton Hymas led the Warriors with 17 points on 6-of-8 shooting and Herring added 13 points with six assists and four rebounds, while Byrd scored 11 points.
The two victories improved LC State to 16-4 overall and 10-2 in CCC play, tying them atop the conference standings. Up next, LC State will travel to face Oregon Tech and (RV) Southern Oregon University for the second time this season.
