REDDING, Calif. – Sophomore Joan Remo Morales (pictured) posted a hat-trick to lead the Bushnell men's soccer team to a 5-1 victory over Lincoln University on Wednesday afternoon in a neutral-site contest taking place at Simpson University.
The Beacons (2-0-2) dominated the contest wire-to-wire, out-shooting the Oaklanders, 22-10 with 12 shots-on-goal. Aaron Lowry picked up the win in goal, keeping Lincoln scoreless during the first half while making a pair of saves.
Bushnell got on the board in the 10th minute when Joao Maia claimed a cross from Brady Housley and punched in the goal for the early lead. It was the first of three assists for Housley, who also assisted on what would become the game winner when Remo Morales' header off of a corner kick ricocheted straight down and then into the net.
Just 46 seconds into the second half, Konstantinos Gavriel got on the board with an impressive header, as he was left unmarked in the middle of the box, powering the ball into the upper corner of the goal off a free kick from Sammy Bayer.
Lincoln got on the board in the 54th minute, making it 3-1 when Christopher Ortiz connected with Ludwig Flink to avoid the shutout.
Remo Morales added two more insurance goals to close out the game, with both balls heading into the net off of his chest. In the 64th minute, Housley found him with a cross on a fast-break. Then in the 82nd minute, the sophomore did all the work himself, juking a defender at the edge of the 18-yard box, chipping the keeper and then following through to the ball for the tap-in.
Head coach Joao Ehlers said, "Today was another good performance. We played a lot of guys and were able to keep the intensity throughout the match. We are looking forward to coming home and bringing this momentum with us on Friday night."
UP NEXT: The Beacons return home on Friday night and will play host to Pacific University in a non-conference clash at 7:00 pm. It will be the first counting game of the season for the Boxers, who are 0-2 in exhibitions against Cascade Conference opponents (Northwest and Corban) thus far.
