Men's Basketball 12/14/2019 10:05:00 PM Iain Dexter, EOU Sports Information Director McCullough Drops Career-High 41 as Mountaineers Knock Out Boxers 127-90 LA GRANDE, Ore. – Junior guard Max McCullough scored a career-high 41 points as the Eastern Oregon men's basketball team dismantled Pacific University 127-90 Saturday night at Quinn Coliseum. McCullough had a great shooting night for the Mountaineers (7-4), making 9-of-12 three pointers and 12-for-18 overall. The junior was 8-for-9 from the free throw line, adding seven rebounds four assists and two steals in a true return-to-form game for the former All-American after sitting out 2018-19. Facing Pacific's press defense, EOU was able to beat the trap consistently as they shot 70.8 percent for the game including an insane 83.78 percent on 31-for-37 shooting in the second half. Overall, the Mounties shot 78.6 percent from behind the arc in their most efficient game of the season. After a close 52-50 first half in which Pacific rallied late to make the score close, the Mountaineers flew out of the gates to outscore Pacific 75-40 in the second half. Senior Jarek Schetzle had 19 points and nine rebounds in 21 minutes played. Senior Landon Jones had a double-double with 16 points and 13 boards. Freshman Justin Jeske had 12 points and five rebounds and junior Jamal Heckard added 11 points and eight assists in his first game as a Mountaineers. Senior Brock Johnson and sophomore Kobi Gardea also each had eight assists as EOU finished with 38 as a team. The Blue and Gold also won the rebound battle 52-28 as they used their size and strength to dominate the paint against the Boxers. The EOU defense played an effective game as well, limiting Pacific to 37.3 shooting overall and 33.3 percent from behind the arc. The Mountaineers will next head back into CCC action, visiting rival Southern Oregon on Friday and Oregon Tech on Saturday.
