Track and Field 2/28/2019 8:24:00 PM Iain Dexter, EOU Sports Information Director Dodd Takes 3rd, Earns All-American on Day 1 of Nationals FULL RESULTS BROOKINGS, S.D. – Senior Paige Dodd captured third place in the women's pentathlon, earning All-American honors to lead the Eastern Oregon track and field team at Day 1 of the NAIA Indoor Track and Field Championships on Thursday. Dodd finished the day with 3,469 total points, just 15 off of her personal and school record in the event. Dodd placed between second and seventh in all five events, which included posting two personal records on the successful day. The senior All-American began her afternoon with a strong run of 9.32 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles. The time was not her personal record overall in the event, but was her pentathlon hurdle record. The time was good enough for fifth place out of 16 competitors and 844 points. Dodd followed up with her best event, tying for second in the high jump with a mark of 1.62 meters. She then followed up with two PRs in the following two events, including a seventh place finish in the shot put (10.38 meters) and sixth place in the long jump (5.18 meters). All three of Dodd's jumps in the long jump bested her previous PR, moving her to No. 5 all-time at EOU. Finally, Dodd closed out her excellent day in the 800 meters, placing sixth with a time of 2 minutes, 29.17 seconds. Also competing on day one was the men's and women's 4x400-meter relay teams. The women's team, consisting of Megan Bolton, Michelle Herbes, Olivia Lane and Elizabeth Herbes qualified for the finals on Saturday. The quartet took third in their heat and eighth place overall with a time of 3:54.44. Elizabeth Herbes ran an impressive anchor leg of the race, finishing in just 56.5 seconds. The will race on Saturday for a chance to earn All-American status. The men's relay team of Connor Young, Cooper Shaw, Derian Handfield and Devin Lewis-Allen placed 14th overall, improving on their seeding entering the meet. The team broke their own school record with a time of 3:19.72 in a strong effort overall. The Mountaineers continue the NAIA Championships on Friday with a number of competitors. Dodd will take part in the women's 60-meter hurdles, Ebony Wilson takes on the women's long jump and Alex Navarro will race in the men's 1,000 meters.
