Track and Field 4/19/2019 8:12:24 PM Dodd, Schmidt Claim CCC Titles at Multi Events Championships HEPTATHLON RESULTS (PDF) DECATHLON RESULTS (PDF) LA GRANDE, Ore. – Entering the day in the lead, both Eastern Oregon’s Paige Dodd and Corban’s Michael Schmidt each rolled to individual titles on Saturday at the Cascade Collegiate Conference Multi Events Championships, Presented by U.S. Bank, at the EOU Track. Women’s Heptathlon Dodd scored 4,826 total points, narrowly eclipsing the mark of 4,818 set in 1996 by Jill Carrier of Southern Oregon. The junior won two different events in the high jump and long jump, and was solid in the rest of the events with no lower than a seventh place finish. Dodd’s point total also jumps her back into first place in the NAIA entering the weekend, well ahead of the previous leader at 4,556 points. The title is her second of her career, as Dodd won in 2017 before redshirting the 2018 season. On day two, Dodd won the long jump handily with a distance of 5.48 meters. She then took fourth in the in the javelin throw at 29.17 meters and seventh in the 800 meters in 2:31.27. Dodd scored 10 points for the Mountaineers, which will be added to the team’s score at the CCC Championships in May. Valierie Schmidt of Corban jumped into second place with a strong day two, finishing with 4,620 points. Loghan Sprauer of Southern Oregon, the 2018 CCC Champion, placed third with 4,536 points while EOU’s Olivia Lane took fourth with 4,476 points. The top-six finishers, including the College of Idaho’s Kiersten Lancaster (4,247 points) and Northwest Christian’s Savannah Proske (4,136) scored enough points for NAIA Provisional marks. Men’s Decathlon Despite two lengthy lightning delays, Schmidt claimed first place as he held the lead all of Saturday. Schmidt finished with 6,763 points, winning the final two events of the day in the javelin throw (48.02 meters) and the 1,500-meter run (4:30.80). Schmidt’s total is a PR on the season, keeping him ranked No. 2 in the NAIA entering the day, and easily a provisional qualifier for nationals. The Corban decathlete won his first career CCC decathlon title, adding 10 points to the Warriors’ team score. Corban also had the second place finisher in Reagan Shira, who posted 6,465 points. Shira pulled to within a few points of Schmidt after winning the seventh event in the discus throw. The College of Idaho’s Kendrik Caldwell placed third with 5,994 points, followed by Oregon Tech’s Jackson Stallard in fourth (5,954) and C of I’s Nate Griswold in fifth (5,737). All five competitors finished with NAIA Provisional marks. The point totals from the CCC Multi Events Championships will be added to the full championship event on May 10 and 11 in Ashland, Ore.
