EOU Men's Basketball Drops Heartbreaker Against SOU 77-73

LA GRANDE, Ore. - The Eastern Oregon men's basketball team lost an all-out battle against the No.15 Southern Oregon Raiders (16-5,10-3) 77-73 Saturday night in Cascade Collegiate Conference play.

Finishing 1-1 on the weekend, the Mountaineers are now 10-10 overall and 4-7 against Cascade Conference opponents. Despite losing by just four points, EOU had a strong shooting night from behind the arc, going 8for-15 and shooting 53 percent. Senior Jarek Schetzle had a team-high of 21 points with seven rebounds, shooting 69% from the field. Junior Max McCullough added 15 points and a team-best of nine rebounds, while junior Brandon Porter collected 12 points.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
Staying neck and neck in the first half, the second half proved to be a war on the hardwood between long-time rivals. Starting the second half down by just one point, 37-36, SOU put some distance on the scoreboard, taking a 53-43 lead.

EOU got back within four points, 65-61, as they made a late run with under nine minutes to play. Staying within seven points throughout the last eight minutes, Eastern was back within two points after a three by MuCullough and field goal by Landon Jones to make it 75-73 with under a minute to play. However, after two good free throws by SOU's Teron Bradford, the final score was 77-73.   

BY THE NUMBERS
8: EOU connected on eight three pointers which is one more than their amount of missed three-point attempts.
7: EOU was able to limit their turnovers with just seven to SOU's 10.
3: The Raiders had three players reach double-digit points, led by Aaron Borich with 18, Jordan Hunt with 17 and Bradford with 14.
 
UP NEXT: The Eastern Oregon Men's Basketball team goes on the road next weekend playing the Warner Pacific Knights (12-9, 7-5 CCC) and the Multnomah Lions ( in Portland Oregon. In the previous meet up between Eastern and these two CCC opponents, the Mountaineer's went 1-1 in La Grande, beating Multnomah 118-88 but losing a close game to Warner Pacific 89-76.
