CORVALLIS, Ore. – Heading into the 2020-21 year, 24 student-athletes were named to the Cascade Collegiate Conference Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), representing their schools.

Joshua Steging is one of the reps at Multnomah University, along with Persia Anderson. The sophomore on the men’s soccer team chose MU to continue his playing and academic careers, leaving Southern California in the process.

“I felt MU would allow me to grow in my faith as well as incorporate that into athletics,” said Steging.

The exercise science major from Temecula, Calif., knows being a student-athlete can have some demands, including a “busy schedule, a high credit load and early mornings.”

This year is a little different due to the coronavirus, with the fall season being pushed back to the spring.

“Being able to train has been a bit difficult and going and visiting friends,” said Steging.

Steging hopes to get the season going soon since he enjoys things that come along with being a student-athlete.

“[I like the] long road trips for games and [building] relationships with teammates,” said Steging.

Steging’s coach Dalon Parker has become a big influence on his life, but so has his mom, “even though she’s not technically here at school”

When he’s not out on the soccer field or studying, Steging enjoys doing crossfit and wakesurfing. After graduation, Steging hopes to join the Firefighter Academy for the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
