Oaks are Women’s Wrestling Preseason Favorite Once Again

CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Cascade Collegiate Conference Women’s Wrestling Championship, presented by U.S. Bank, is back on schedule after a year hiatus.

After claiming the first-ever CCC Women’s Wrestling Championship in 2020, Menlo College was picked to take the trophy once again as the conference released the 2021-22 Women’s Wrestling Coaches’ Preseason Poll Wednesday.

The Oaks picked up six first-place votes and a total of 48 points to be the preseason favorite. Menlo returns a core group of grapplers from the championship team, including 130-pounder Gracie Figueroa and 109-pounder Alleida Martinez, who both won their respective weight classes at the 2020 CCC Championship.

Southern Oregon University isn’t far behind the Oaks with 42 points, including one first-place vote. The Raiders competed at the NAIA Invitational last year, taking fifth as a team and had three All-Americans, all of which return to the Raider lineup. Sienna Ramirez is one of those returners and last year won the 155-pound weight class at the NAIA Invitational.

The University of Providence rounds out the top-three on the preseason poll with 34 points. The Argos return the Navarro sisters, Ivy and Ira, who both finished top-five at the NAIA Invitational last year.

Eastern Oregon University and Corban University fill in spots four and five with 25 and 20 points, respectively. Life Pacific University grabbed 14 points for sixth, while Simpson University closed out the list with 12 points.
