ROCKLIN, CALIF. -- Menlo Women's Wrestling kicked off their weekend in Rocklin for the Cliff Keen Women's West Coast Tournament of Champions today with the dual round, earning second place after a pair of wins. Menlo won 16 bouts over the three duals, outscoring their three opponents 93-48. The Oaks have now won five of their seven duals on the season.
Dual One: Menlo 33, Midland 10
The Oaks had their largest margin of victory in dual number one today, earning a 33-10 victory over Midland University. After a pair of victories by forfeit, Lizette Young got things really going for Menlo with a 30 second pin of 16th ranked Prethy Enriquez. Midland would take a pair of wins, one by forfeit and one by tech fall, but the back end of Menlo's dual lineup was too much for the Vikings, as Louisa Schwab (143), Alia Abushi (170), and Emily Sandoval (191) would all earn tech fall victories to secure the dual victory for the Oaks. Abushi, in her Menlo debut, earned her victory over 14th ranked Jasmin Ballesteros.
Dual Two: Menlo 35, Umpqua CC 13
The Oaks would cruise to their second dual victory as Umpqua Community College could also not keep up with the strong dual lineup of the Oaks. Menlo won three of their first four bouts to build a commanding lead, headlined by Nalani Kirkman earning a victory by pin and Alleida Martinez making her return to the mats for the first time since early 2020 with a 10-0 tech fall. Down the stretch, Umpqua would win their second and third bouts, but the Oaks would see Trinity Speredon, Louisa Schwab, Alia Abushi, and Emily Sandoval would close out Umpqua, pushing the Oaks to the finals against Colorado Mesa.
Dual Three: Menlo 25, Colorado Mesa 25 (CMU Wins Tie Breaker 6.0-5.0)
In the dual of the tournament, Menlo and Colorado Mesa squared off, and it was too close to call throughout the dual. Through 136, Menlo and Mesa went back and forth, trading bout victories, as Tianna Fernandez, Alleida Martinez, and Louisa Schwab would help the Oaks keep pace with CMU. Menlo would drop the next two bouts by forfeit, but would have Alia Abushi and Emily Sandoval close out the dual with victories, knotting things up at 25-25. Unfortunately, Colorado Mesa would earn the victory by way of a 6-5 tie breaker, and Menlo would finish in second in the dual portion of the tournament.
