Oregon Tech Baseball Garners ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Oregon Tech baseball team was recognized with the ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award for its work in the classroom this past year as the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) announced the recipients of the annual academic award.   ABCA Release

"It is great to be recognized for our academic achievements by the ABCA," said head coach Jacob Garsez. "Our athletes did an excellent job of competing to win in the classroom during the 2020-21 season, earning a team GPA of 3.37. We are developing a championship culture here at Oregon Tech Baseball and a large part of that is excelling in the classroom. We talk a lot about each of us having a role and an opportunity to make a positive impact on this program; this is an example of that, as it took a collective effort to earn a team GPA of a 3.37…. Go Owls!"

Oregon Tech is the first and only Cascade Collegiate Conference team to win the award and was one of just 27 NAIA programs to earn the nod.

To be honored, teams had to meet the following criteria:
  • Must be a high school or college team
  • Head coach must be a current ABCA member
  • Team must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 on a 4.0 scale during the 2020-21 academic year
