WVT Laboratory Players of the Week Announced

CORVALLIS, Ore. The following seven CCC student-athletes have been recognized as the WVT Laboratory Players of the Week for their performances during the period August 23-29, 2021.
 
Women’s Volleyball - Attacker
No. 21-ranked Southern Oregon University’s Hailey Van Well was named the WVT Laboratory Women’s Volleyball Attacker of the Week.

Van Well, a sophomore outside hitter from Dallas, Ore., recorded 55 kills on a .317 average as SOU went 4-0 at the William Jessup Invite. She had a career-high 21 on 50 swings in a five-set win over WJU, including four in the tiebreaker set.

Women’s Volleyball - Defender
No. 14-ranked Eastern Oregon University’s Cambree Scott was named the WVT Laboratory Women’s Volleyball Defender of the Week.
 
Scott, a junior middle hitter from Bend, Ore., started all four matches for the Mountaineers, helping EOU go 3-1 at the C of I/EOU Fall Classic. She racked up 41 kills to average 2.93 per set and hit .257 for the weekend, while also posting three service aces. Scott tallied 22 blocks to average 1.57 per set and had 14 digs on the weekend. She tallied a career high 16 kills against No. 5-ranked Dordt.
 
Women’s Volleyball - Setter
Bushnell University’s Makenna Northern was named the WVT Laboratory Women’s Volleyball Setter of the Week.
 
Northern, a junior setter from Brownsville, Ore., led the Beacons – who are receiving votes in the NAIA – to a 4-0 week. She finished with 115 assists to average 8.85 assists per set, helping Bushnell only drop one set on the week. Northern posted 31 assists, eight digs, six kills (.667), and three blocks against William Jessup, while adding 28 assists against Simpson University and 29 assists against Menlo College. She also had 27 assists, five digs and two blocks against UC Merced.
 
Women’s Soccer – Defensive Player
Southern Oregon University’s Jessie Selby was named the WVT Laboratory Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week.
 
Selby, a senior goalkeeper from Vancouver, Wash., made 13 saves to salvage a 0-0 draw for the Raiders, despite being out-shot 28-7 at The Master's on Saturday. She was one short of her career-high and now owns the two highest single-game save totals for SOU in the last 15 years.
  
Women’s Soccer – Offensive Player
Corban University’s Mei Suetsugu was named the WVT Laboratory Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week.
 
Suetsugu, a junior midfielder from Kobe, Japan, helped the Warriors begin their 2021 campaign in impressive fashion, blanking NCAA Division III Pacific University in a season-opening triumph on the road. After a scoreless first half, Corban stormed out of the gates in the second period with a pair of quick goals. Suetsugu was in on the action both times, sending a beautiful through ball for an assist. Just five minutes later, Suetsugu doubled the advantage, blasting a missile into the top-right corner from 30 yards out.
 
Men’s Soccer – Defensive Player
Southern Oregon University’s Liam Kalhagen was named the WVT Laboratory Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week.
 
Kalhagen, a senior goalkeeper from Camas, Wash., made three saves to preserve the shutout in SOU's season-opening 2-0 win on Saturday at The Master's.
  
Men’s Soccer – Offensive Player
College of Idaho’s Caio Pereira was named the WVT Laboratory Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week.
 
Pereira, a junior midfielder from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, had a big weekend in his Coyote debut. The transfer scored his first C of I goal in a 4-0 win at George Fox, while adding the game-tying and game-winning goal in the second half of Sunday's road 4-2 win at Linfield. Pereira also added an assist on the Yotes’ final goal at Linfield.
