BELLINGHAM, Wash. – The host UBC Thunderbirds hold a commanding 23 stroke lead over second place Oregon Tech after day one of the Gail Moore Intercollegiate tournament held at Sudden Valley Golf Course in Bellingham, Washington.
Led by freshman Emily Li's opening round 1-over 73, the Thunderbirds shot a 21-over 309 Monday, looking full value as the Cascade Collegiate Conference's preseason consensus number one.
UBC senior Shania Remandeban finished her opening round with a 6-over 78 for second place in the individual standings while teammates Sonja Tang and Una Chou, along with Bushnell University's Analise Aubin all shot a 7-over 79 to round out the top five.

With an opening round 44-over 332, Oregon Tech was led Monday by Ashley Zhu's 8-over 80 as the Owls enter Tuesday's final round four strokes ahead of Lewis-Clark State whose top opening-18 score came courtesy of Kyla Currie who also fired 8-over at the par 72, 5804 yard Sudden Valley.
Corban University sits fourth in the team standings with a 53-over 341, led by a pair of 9-over 81s from Delainey Rez and Kristin Senatra.
Bushnell and the College of Idaho sit fifth and sixth, respectively, after opening round scores of 85-over 373 and 86-over 374.
Walla Walla University shot a 94-over 382 on Monday.
The first tournament of the 2021 CCC season concludes Tuesday morning in Bellingham as the Thunderbirds look to clinch their first win in their return to conference play.
