WVT Laboratory Players of the Week Announced

CORVALLIS, Ore. The following nine CCC student-athletes have been recognized as the WVT Laboratory Players of the Week for their performances during the period August 30-September 5, 2021.
 
Women’s Volleyball - Attacker
Northwest University’s Megan Horne was named the WVT Laboratory Women’s Volleyball Attacker of the Week.

Horne, a senior middle blocker from Albany, Ore., helped the Eagles open Cascade Collegiate Conference action with two wins to be one of five teams to start the conference season undefeated, while also grabbing a non-conference victory during the week. She averaged 5.1 points per set, swinging .387 for the week with 4.73 kills per set. In NU’s win over Multnomah University, Horne hit at an impressive .500 with 21 kills and also came up with three stuffs at the net.

Women’s Volleyball - Defender
Northwest University’s Cristina Lorenz was named the WVT Laboratory Women’s Volleyball Defender of the Week.
 
Lorenz, a senior libero from Olympia, Wash., helped the Eagles go 3-0 on the week. She averaged 5.73 digs per set to keep NU in each match. In NU’s win over Multnomah University, Lorenz posted 25 digs and had two service aces.
 
Women’s Volleyball - Setter
Northwest University’s Anna Saelens was named the WVT Laboratory Women’s Volleyball Setter of the Week.
 
Saelens, a senior setter from Puyallup, Wash., fueled the offense for the Eagles in a 3-0 week. She averaged 11.45 assists and 2.75 digs per set. Saelens also had two service aces and 10 blocks on the week, including four in NU’s victory over Multnomah University to help the Eagles start 2-0 in conference – one of five teams to do so.
 
Women’s Soccer – Defensive Player
Corban University’s Makida Herbert was named the WVT Laboratory Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week.
Herbert, a sophomore goalkeeper from Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, picked up two wins on the week between the posts for the Warriors. She made eight saves and held her opponents to just one goal, grabbing a clean sheet in the other Corban victory.
  
Women’s Soccer – Offensive Player
Rocky Mountain College’s Halle Labert was named the WVT Laboratory Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week.
 
Labert, a sophomore midfielder from Billings, Mont., helped the Battlin’ Bears to two wins to start the season. She took nine shots over the two games, converting one goal for the game-winner in overtime against Marymount California University.
 
Men’s Soccer – Defensive Player
Oregon Tech’s Joel Witts was named the WVT Laboratory Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week.
 
Witts, a junior goalkeeper from Bend Ore., played 177 minutes between the posts for Oregon Tech, posting back-to-back shutouts.
  
Men’s Soccer – Offensive Player
Oregon Tech’s Arthur Proost was named the WVT Laboratory Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week.
 
Proost, a sophomore forward from Zoetermeer, Netherlands, had a heck of a debut for the Owls scoring three goals and assisting on another leading Tech to a 2-0 start to the season. The transfer took five shots over the weekend, converting three of them.
 
Women’s Cross Country – Runner
No. 11-ranked Lewis-Clark State College’s Rylee Brown was named the WVT Laboratory Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week.
 
Brown, a senior from Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, led the Warriors in the first meet of the season. She finished 17th overall as the top non-NCAA DI finisher at the Clash of the Inland Northwest, just behind a group from Gonzaga, Idaho, and EWU. Brown clocked in with a time of 15:18 in the 4K, helping LC State take fourth at the meet.
 
Men’s Cross Country – Runner
No. 6-ranked Lewis-Clark State College’s Brycen Kempton was named the WVT Laboratory Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week.
 
Kempton, a freshman from Post Falls, Idaho, led the Warrior men in the first meet of the season and his collegiate debut. He finished 17th overall and was the top non-NCAA DI finisher at the Clash of the Inland Northwest with a time of 19:10 in the 6K.
