Mountaineers Tally Nine Placewinners, Two Champions at Oregon Wrestling Classic

REDMOND, Ore. – Mountaineer Women's Wrestling put together a solid performance on Saturday in their final regular season tournament of the year. Eastern Oregon racked up nine placewinners at the Oregon Wrestling Classic, with two being champions.

Earning first place finishes was Stephanie Blankenship at 101-109 pounds and Olivia Robinson at 170 pounds. Placing second was Nayeli Flores Roque at 101-109 pounds and Morgan Shines at 130 pounds. Also earning podium finishes were Anjelynn Baron (4th; 116 lbs.), Irma Retano (5th; 116 lbs.), Ariel Ceno (5th; 143 lbs.), Aleena Wiegand (5th; 155 lbs.), and Tenley Swope (6th; 155 lbs.)

Blankenship was 4-1 and had three of her wins come in shutout fashion. Her only other win was a pin and her three shutouts were all tech falls. She started the day with a 12-0 tech fall over Xochitl Tafoya of Big Bend Community College. She then scored a 10-0 tech fall over Leilani Samoy of Grays Harbor College. Her lone pin was in her third bout with a fall over Hinda Doucoure of Umpqua Community College. In her final bout, Blankenship did not slow down as she posted a 10-0 tech fall against conference foe Brooke Burrows of Corban.

Robinson's undefeated day was a short one as she needed just two wins to secure her first place finish. Despite the short run, she did not allow either opponent to score on her. Robinson's first win was a 10-0 tech fall over Adele Moulton of Big Bend. Her day wrapped up with a 7-0 decision over Valerie Osborn of Southwestern Oregon Community College.

Flores Roque also went undefeated at 101-109 pounds going 4-0. She was second behind Blankenship based on scoring. Her first win was a pin of Samoy of Grays Harbor in 1:32. Flores Roque then scored a 12-3 decision against Umpqua's Doucoure. She finished the day with back-to-back tech falls by scores of 10-0 and 12-2.

Shines' runner-up finish came thanks to a 4-1 record on the day. She won her first three bouts before dropping her first match. Shines started with a pin in 1:03 in her first match-up and followed up with another pin, this time in 4:32, to improve to 2-0. Her third win was her closest as she posted a 6-2 decision to stay undefeated. Shines' lone loss was a close 11-8 decision in her fourth bout. She bounced back with a victory via fall in 59 seconds in her final match of the day.

Baron was 2-3 on the day at 116 pounds to finish fourth. She had one of her two wins come thanks to a forfeit. Her second win was a fall in 2:20 that helped her secure a top-five finish. Placing fifth at 116 pounds was Retano who went 2-3 as well. Like Baron, she had one win via forfeit, while her second win was a 10-0 tech fall.

Ceno was 1-4 on the day at 143 pounds. Her lone win came in her final bout with a fall in 1:43. Wiegand also went 1-4, with her lone win being a fall in 1:25 at 155 pounds. Swope also went 1-4 at 155 pounds. Her one win was a forfeit in the final bout.
